Monahan is a no unless he is basically given away. Crushed in metrics, a power play merchant who struggles to skate why in the world would anybody trade a first for Monahan? Oh that’s right he has had an ok 25 odd games just like last year.

Each year there gm that trade away first for exactly this kind of players. Florida gave a first for Chiarot. Winnipeg gave a first for a 32 years old Paul Statsny. Statsny was clearly not the same players he use to but still had that resume. So i would be surprised at all if their was a gm that gave up a first for Monahan. The late first have much less values to contending team then actual players that can fill a specific role. Team that will be interested will be team that need depth. Eqch and every freaking year it’s the same again and again. Not sure why it bother you so much.

I challenge you to find any deal where a Joe Sakic led front office traded a first round pick at the deadline for any player.

They traded Justin Barron at the deadline and a 2nd round pick. So that a trade where Sakic traded a first round pick. And a pretty good one in my opinion. But if he had to do it again he would. So if McFarlane think that they have better chance to win the cup with Monahan then he will pay a first round pick . help now or futur maybe if it pan out in 3-4-5 years. The choice is easy, they will sacrifice the futur for the present because Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen and maybe Landeskog are in their prime. You must cash in when it’s time. Do this make sense to you?

I think the problem with my trade is that it represents two 1st round picks, but Monahan is worth a 1st and Kovacevic at 775k$ is worth at least a 2nd in this cap era.
