So basically you want the Blues to trade a player and retain for a 5th rounder?

St. Louis declines and take Barrie out of the other trade and I’d accept it

There's no upside to that for St. Louis. Klingberg is done for the year and they wont really even lose any monetary responsibilities in doing this.

Yes. Kapanen isn't very good and being a UFA, blues flip him for cheap. I personally don't think they would have many teams calling on him, so that's why I was thinking a fairly cheap price for a bottom 6er.

So your saying Take the struggling Barrie out of the trade and the leafs trade a 3rd and a 4th for an AHL player?? That doesn't make much sense to me. Sure he's doing good in AHL, but that's definitely not a 3rd + 4th. Makes no sense imo. Please explain more if you see it differently.

I was going off the fact that Kapanen hasn't been very good. 9pts in 29 games. And being a Blues team that imo won't make playoffs, Kapanen would be a cheap flip.

All im saying is the last defender in the league to be traded to the leafs will be Barrie id rather over pay for an ahler then pay for Barrie just ain’t gonna happen

Kapanen hasn't been bad. 2 of his points are shorthanded and the others are all even strength in a 3rd line role.

That's not a cheap flip though. That's actually taking back more monetary obligations than just keeping him and letting him play out his contract here. I'd imagine insurance would cover some of the money but there's no reason to complicate things like that. I'd imagine you could probably move Kapanen at 50% for around a 3rd or a 4th and a fringe guy that can fill a roster slot.

Kap has been pretty good at everything except finishing plays. Any way you slice it, there's absolutely zero gain for the Blues in this.

You still need to upgrade 3 d-men. Barrie is trash, Timmins is a defensive liability and Lagesson is a #8 d-man.

Lol and you know what, at the time, I thought the leafs won that. lol. I expected Kerfoot to be much better and well at the time Barrie was pretty good imo.

Any recommendations to who you would target? Other then Tanev or Hanifin on Calgary. (hear way too much about that lol) If I was management, I would actually go and talk to Columbus about Andrew Peeke. I feel he has potential and is locked in long term on a good deal.

Jeremy Lauzon and Lyubuskin are the style of guys they need. Clear the net and hit stay at home d-men. I don't think they would cost near as much either. Peeke can't make Columbus lineup, now if he was that good they would be moving around someone to their wrong side to get him in the lineup.

No, pretty sure his overall game/effort level was bad in Pittsburgh. He certainly has been making an honest full effort in STL. Just kinda stumbles at the final hurdle more than you'd like.

Remember it was Kerfoot, Barrie (retained )for Kadri. Barrie was the Leafs worse Dman in. the one year he was Leaf.....that was the nightmare.
Didn't hear much complaining about the trade at the time cause so many are just love RHD, regardless of their effectiveness.

The Leafs have had 3 really bad RHD in the last decade, that were expected to do more but just became hated by the fans. Barrie, then Holl and now Klingberg. He's out now so its been quiet. Wonder who the next scape goat will be.
