Not actually. While he’s the least sexy of all the defenceman the Oilers have he is nowhere near the most mistake prone. He’s steady back there provides a bit of puck movement. Nothing special but he’s not a liability. He hasn’t been one for years.

no, this past 8 game winning streak ceci has constantly been one of the oilers bottom 3 defensemen, When ceci is on the ice opponents shots, goals and chances go up while the oilers offense (especially draisaitl's) go wayyyy down, ceci's poor defending and offense are being covered up by the 5 man unit of 93-97-18, 14-2 who have been dominating every line they play against and scoring at a crazy rate IF the oilers want to be true contenders they need upgrade on ceci who is playing out of his depth range and acquire a true top4 D who can compliment nurses game as ceci takes away from his game

91-29-28, 25-5 has been the worst 5 man unit since being put together even being outplayed by the 4th line (brown and ceci put up some of the worst metrics in the WHOLE LEAGUE when on ice together)

Defensive defensemen are trusted to take the toughest defensive assignments and play lots of minutes, which is why you notice them being on the ice for more goals against. If he was as bad as some people think he is, he wouldn't be 5th in ATOI for EDM. Offensive defensemen get more offensive situation starts and also get more puck touches, resulting in a padded stat-line and less opportunity for their defensive shortcomings to be put on display. That isn't to say he a star or anything, but simply just moving him without a defensive defenseman to take his place would only amplify the defensive deficiencies of EDM as a team. Plus, he is affordable in a cap crunched league.

No disagreements here. Ceci has value. He plays reliable Top 4 minutes well. He can even moonlight as a top pair and keep his head above water. And all this at only 3.25M a year. OP thinking he needs to send a 3rd to get rid of him is just bad idea from someone who doesn’t understand his value.
