Pens Sell At TDL

Created by: LC_Colorado
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 30, 2023
Published: Dec. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This Penguins team is currently in a limbo between absolutely sucking and being a potential contender. Dubas isn’t to blame for having bad free agency signing, rather it’s that the players he signed aren’t producing well. Along with a horrendous Powerplay and an inconsistent Penalty Kill, this team isn’t looking the best…

Depending on how the Pens look after December will determine what they do. If they appear to have gotten back on their feet, then they should try and commit to playoff contention. However, if they still continue being an inconsistent pile of disappointment, then this team gotta sell!

  1. Brzustewicz, Hunter [Reserve List]

  3. 2024 1st round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
I know that there’s a lot of people on here that propose trading Guentzel to VGK; however, I feel like sending him to Vancouver would be a better option. Vancouver has a couple former Penguins such as Bleuger, Cole, DeSmith, etc. on the team that could help produce chemistry. Sure, Vancouver may be in cap limbo due to having to extend Pettersson in the offseason. However, if they make some good moves in the offseason, then they can have a good ability to lock up Guentzel for a couple years.
VAN
  1. Guentzel, Jake
Additional Details:
It’s the Penguins decision as to whether they’re willing to retain cap or want a 3rd team to retain cap. To whatever team Whether it’s the Pens or a 3rd team like SJ, Vancouver should send 2024 4th to the team retaining. If it’s a case where Pens retain 50% and a 3rd team retains 50% of the remaining 50%, Pens get a 2024 4th and the 3rd team gets a 2025 5th

  1. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Nedeljkovic, Alex
Additional Details:
Edmonton needs one thing: goaltending. Campbell has been… well… a dumpster fire, to say the least. Pickard isn’t bad, but Edmonton can’t trust having an AHL/3rd string goalie as their backup. Nedeljkovic has been solid on the Penguins, acting like a brick wall. He’d also be great to replace Calvin Pickard.
4.
PIT
  1. 2026 7th round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Carter, Jeff ($1,562,500 retained)
Additional Details:
The only way Pens can get Carter to waive his NTC is by sending him to a true contender. I suppose he could get sent to any contender that’d maybe want him (LA, Vegas, Boston, etc.)

Pretty sure Bear is going to be a Capital. Its all but announced from what I understand.

Additionally, the only way I see Vancouver paying that would be if Jake had an extension already in place with Vancouver or it was a sign and trade.

EDM says no. Even if I don't account for the cap issues with such a move, 6 games doesn't delete the other 103 NHL games of his career that suggest he's likely just a fringe G.

I think the Pens will be able to get a return for Rakell. He had 60 points last year, and was impactful enough that Geno's line has been worse without him this season even when he wasn't scoring. If they're going to start tearing it down and rebuilding, what's the point of cap dumping a player, especially with retention?

Pens fans need to seriously lower their expectations for many of the Pens players. Not saying that to be mean, its just the end of the line for many of these guys. They have done well and competed and won, but the party is coming to an end. One last swing for the fences and then its a garage sale, and typically you get things very cheap at a garage sale. Dubus will do his best to unload and clear cap and bring back some young prospects or draft choices.

They only games that they’ve really sucked has been since people have started going down. And the PK has been stellar until 3/4th of our regular PKers got injured. I think it’s fair to point out the PP for being atrocious but i dont think the other points are fair, the only free agent that hasn’t done what’s been asked of him to me is graves. They need a good December for sure, but as injured players come back they will get better.

Canucks decline. They don't need more wingers, especially ones that cost a 1st+ who they simply can't afford to resign.
