Buffalo fans, what would the cost be here for no retention and for 50%?

I know he's an RFA but Buffalo already has Cozens and Tage + Krebs and other young centers.

They're not gunna trade one of 3 players producing right now.

The only major trades the Sabres make are when the player asks out. So you'll have to wait for Casey's interview in April where he says he lost his love for the game.

Never know unless you ask... even with the cap going up to $87M they have nearly half of their cap wrapped up in Cozens/Thompson/Skinner/Dahlin/Power. Given the season Casey is having I was just curious if they'd be able to sign him or not to a long term deal so if not maybe they'd move him. Plus they have a deep prospect pool.

Possibly. I think the Sabres need at least one of the top 3 centers to be defensively capable, and winning a faceoff or two wouldn't hurt either. So maybe you have him or cozens slide to a wing, but the Sabres have several smallish skilled forwards coming (peterka, Quinn, and Benson are here, Rosen, kulich, savoie, and ostlund are coming). I don't see Pittsburgh as a trade partner for buffalo, the Sabres would probably be looking for a top 4 d (righty, defensive minded, and physical- if adams has any idea what he's doing). I don't know if that's too much for mittelstadt, he's trending toward being a 65 point second line forward, obviously the Sabres would be able to sweeten the pot for the right player. I don't see Casey just getting moved out on the cheap though, if no deal makes sense, I expect adams will just take up more cap space on a mittelstadt extension, that would be the path of least resistance.

Why on earth would that be the return we’d want?
@pens1991, Sabres probably aren’t moving Mitts
Yes, we are deep at Center, but Mitts AND all our other Centers have spent time on the wing as well- and we like the versatility

Only way I’d see him moved is if it’s for a legit top4 RD who is defensively oriented & his age fits our timeline (26-27ish)
We’d also want a guy under contract most likely for a few years
That- or a legit starting goalie- who again, fits our timeline & is signed for a few years at least

I really don’t think we move Mitts unless contract takes go south though
I expect him to sign long term, for something around $5.5-6mil per season

Mitts is expendable if we're giving up on the season. I don't want to pay him and have Savoie Kulich and Ostland stuck in development hell. Their ceiling is higher than Mitts rn too and Mitts seems to be peaking, so best time to move him, and hope Thompson and Cozens get back on track next year

Yeah pens do not have a top 4 RD for that fit.

Was genuinely curious given a few things I stated earlier and the fact I think it'd be a position the pens would want to upgrade and with his cap hit he'd me someone more suited for it.

Mitts has also developed his all around game nicely
And that’s helpful considering the rest of the lineup

He might be available- BUT- only for the right price
And that isn’t gonna be “futures” & depth players- NO WAY imo

I’d bet we sign him long term
And idc about the supposed spot that takes from the youth
Mitts is ONE guy, he isn’t gonna prevent 3 of the kids from getting their chance here

Id rather package him for a good to elite middle 6 2 way center like RNH or someone

In the real world, trades don’t happen like they do on here
Mitts is already turning into a good 2way center

Can we trade Mitts for a lockdown RD,
    sign Lindholm,
and find a legit Vet goalie starter ?

It looks so simple on here, but in reality…..

Doubt GMKA goes after a goalie for next season, unless he is also moving out UPL. This season if he does something it's too late and will be panned for that reason.

Buffalo hasn't always been the... shall we say, most intelligently-run organization in the NHL... but yeah I don't see BUF moving young forwards UNLESS it's to majorly shore up the D or the Goaltending with a long term fix......

While any trade involving Casey is unlikely, he should return more than Newhook.
He brought 31st, 37th and a low rank prospect.

Actually, while the Knox family owned the Sabres they were one of the better franchises.
Since they sold the team in 1996 to the Rigas' the owners were either disintersted (Golisano, National Hockey League and John Rigas) or micromanaged (Pegula).
So you are correct, for nearly 20 years it has been a terrible franchise.
Until Lysowski moved from Pittsburgh to Buffalo, none of the sport writters had a clue about hockey.
Our hockey news team forced both Bowman and Muckler out of Buffalo, two of the smartest hockey GM's at the time of their dismissal.
This staff of clueless writers rued the firing of Tim Murray who was one of the worst GM"s in NHL history.

Could always leave Levi in AHL next year too & have UPL be the backup for Sabres….
