Rico Suave and a healthy Girardo for the playoffs

Created by: Anus_McLeod
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 20, 2023
Published: Dec. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Guessing Ducks fans will want more, but most of his production is PP points, which to me indicates the price won't be as high as raw stats would indicate. Of course, I could be wrong. Usually am.

Less retention might be possible, depending on what's going on with Girard, Lehkonen, etc., but I went for max here.

I think everyone knows, but just in case the cap works here because Landeskog is out for the regular season.

If Rico wants to play for a team that’s contending for a Stanley Cup then why not do it.

If y'all think RyJo is slow, wait until Rico is trying to keep up to the Avs pace. I see him as this years Lars Eller type of bottom 6 to stack it kind of move. Didnt help that Lars had to play 2c at times.

I'm not sure what he wants, but I have to think it's at least possible he'll be open to a move. Could easily see him wanting to stay in Anaheim too (and the Ducks obliging).

It wouldn’t be a true NHL playoffs without multiple teams using LTIR and having those players play in games

It's a concern for sure, but if the alternative is paying through the nose for a rental Lindholm, I think it's worth considering whether they can make it work.

To be fair, I think it's really unlikely Landeskog plays, and especially not for game one.

Haha I know. It just sucks it’s a common theme lately. Vegas with Stone, Tampa with Kucherov. Devils trying to do it with Hamilton and rangers with chytil/Kakko

Acting rationally in response to the incentives provided. But yeah, I do agree that it's looking a bit problematic regarding the "loophole." It's fine if my team gets away with it but trash if it's a different team, lol.

He’s been in the playoffs twice, one with New Jersey in 2011-2012 and Anaheim in 2017-2018.
Anaheim is still in a rebuild/retool team with the amount of young players they have in their roster.
I’m guessing he wants to play for a team that’s contending for a Stanley Cup.
Putting Rico to the Colorado Avalanche would make sense.
I just don’t know if it will happen on trade deadline day, draft day, or even in the off-season.

I’m not a fan of it at all. It would be awesome to watch the rangers use the loophole for chytil/Kakko, but it isn’t right

They need a rule where if you’re using that LTIR money to replace the hurt player, that said hurt player cannot play in the playoffs even if he is healthy

I'm not sure that works, because not being able to replace a guy for the regular season does hurt. Maybe a salary cap during the playoffs that is slightly higher than the regular season? That way teams can't bench their lowest paid role guy and benefit from another star player.

Idk, just spit balling. I don't think I have the answer.

Last year was Rico time. Pass this year unless he's really cheap.

Not sure what other realistic options there are. They could take a shot on a younger guy like Frost, buy high on someone like Mittelstadt, or sell the farm for a guy like Lindholm, who they won't be able to keep, but I don't see any of that happening.

Dawson Mercer has crossed my mind, but I don't think Colorado has what NJ needs. It's quite the pickle.

I think we could get a similar return for Rico with a 2024 2nd and not have to wait 3 drafts for the pick

He's playing in an AVS system now with Cronin in ANA, and while he's no speedster, his foot speed has never been an issue either.

Pace. Avs Pace. I didn't say system. I believe he would be a fit there, he just wouldnt be able to keep up in the top 6.

He's no slower than he was last season when AVS fans were clamoring to get him, so why would he have any additional difficulties keeping up with the pace?

Foot speed was an issue last year too. It was an option at the right price when all we had was JTC.
Edit: He is a 30+ year old who doesnt play on a team that skates like the Avs, its easy to think he would fit until you see how badly he doesn't. like with RyJo
