Kuzy is better than RoJo. With that being said if this were to happen the Capitals would not retain without a good pick or prospect coming back as it is an upgrade for the Avs

COL needs to stop futzing around and get a legit 2C not anymore I hope he finds his former glory ****. They burned a year off an elite core doing that once and are in the process of doing it again.

I tend to agree with the exception of saying it will be a good pick/prospect. Kuzy ha been bad this year. I'd say a third at most is what Colorado adds.

Problem is that there aren't a lot of options. Lindholm sounds good, but then it's rinse and repeat next year, since they can't afford to extend him. A bandaid might have to do for now.

Then the caps wouldn't make the trade. There just isn't any reason. It doesn't help us at all. A third is no reason to make the swap with the significant salary retention.

The guy has wanted out for awhile now. This is cap neutral and roughly neutral from an on-ice perspective.

Kuzy isn't worth more than 4M at this point in his career at this point. Teams don't get paid to retain just because there is retention. It has to add value. Here all it does is make his salary somewhat palatable. This allows the Caps to move on and roll with guys who want to be there.

All that said, Avs take Kuzy at 5M and add a mediocre prospect like Meyers. Caps save 1M and get an asset. That's around the best I'd do. If it's still a no, then it is what it is.

Then make the moves necessary so it isn’t rinse and repeat. I think they need to identify the 3rd dman they want to roll with and move on from the other 2, RyJo obviously has to go, and what’s the point of having Lehkonen without a 2C. Throw in draft picks and prospects and there isn’t any reason to have it fixed, because let’s be honest this organization can’t develop players.

I also want Kuznetsov out, for sure. But there’s no reason to do it unless the caps are getting something out of it. A small amount of cap space an an asset is fine with me (granted I’m no GM). Johansen and Meyers for Kuznetsov at 5M makes far more sense than johansen for Kuznetsov swapped with retention to make the cap hit equal IMO.

Yeah, I fail to see any reason for Washington to do that.
