Wasting Minten to get another 30+ year old defenceman and a 4th liner is not wise.

Not sure I love the Tanev add here.

But 50% Larsson would cost quite a bit. I would really love to get him and with retention even more so.

I really dislike the idea of trading Minten or Cowan.

I would consider Niemela. But I would like to keep him also. But in a deal like this, somethings gotta give!

The talent pool for top prospects isn't super deep. I don't think you can keep hanging on to guys for 2 years after drafting and trading at mid value.

I don't think there's a major need with this F group. They are 12-15 deep with a top end top 6, and the bottom 6 is figuring it out IMO.

I don't mind Larsson, especially @ 2 years for $2mil. I'm just not sure I love the trade value for another 31yr old.

Minten doesn't have star potential. He probably tops out as a middle six guy and that won't be for a few years. I think he is more valuable to another team than he is to the leafs.

I agree with this. Wouldn't break my heart to see him go, but not in a deal like this. If you're gonna trade him, it should be on a package for a legit difference maker.

I agree with Minten not having star potential... but we're not looking for a 1st line star.... we're looking long term for a middle 6 guy. He and Cowan are the only 2 in the pool that might fit that bill.

TOR is not a system rich with talent- which you'd expect from a team that thinks they're contenders. At some point you have to hold on to some guys, even guys with "lower" ceilings. Not every draft pick ends up as a legit top 6F / top 4D.
