Feel like this debate is really up to if you want to include the GTA as Toronto… I’m pretty sure it is, no?

For a little clarification. There isn't really a political entity as the "GTA". It's kinda of a made up thing when talking about an undefined geographical region.
Toronto itself is about 240 square mile area with Steeles Ave as its northern border.

Yeah and if you want to include the GTA then that opens the door for Montreal to include the Maratimes since they are the closest team and most maritime players grew up Habs fans

Metropolitan Area's are a Staple in Western Culture
Its how you absorb Communities are larger Cities Grow without erasing them or their history.
Moncton has done it with Dieppe and Riverview as we expand due to a large influx of new Canadians for roughly 25 years now really but it started in the 1990s.
My point is like New York City we'll have tons of unique communities within New York City's Boarders .

Wait What?
Even if you just included Provinces Mcdavids from Ontario
If you say everything Ottawa East is Yours that means everything TOR West is theirs
That Mcdavid and Bedard

Expanding this doesnt help MTL at all
Best you can do is GTA vs MTA in terms of believable match ups

Really?! MacKinnon and Crosby alone make it worth expanding. BTW I wasn't saying it should be included just that if you open it to the GTA where does it stop? What exactly is the GTA? Does it stop at Oshawa or go all the way to Kingston or is it all of south-central Ontario

Mcdavid, Bedard, Makar,Stamkos, Marner, Tavares, Barzal , Stone , Suzuki, ext
I love East coast boys but dividing Canada in 2 favors them in 3/4 in Generational Stars worthy of True GOAT Conversation talks.
Pretty much the same when it comes to high end talent even though we produce more Championship Talent

I dunno Canadian Gov't and before that British Gov't outlined the Metropolitan Area of Toronto.
Again its what All Western Cultures have done always , for all time as far as we're concerned.
We grow to absorb Communities . So a City becomes more like a Country even though it keeps its City Status.
Its Confusing but its also recorded history and even crazy people dont refute it cause its so obviously like Waters Wet obvious

Yep, Toronto has done the same. Slowly hamlets were incorporated into Toronto or other outlying areas. at the end of 1800s and early 1900s.
A big change was in 1954 when Metropolitan Toronto was established (current Toronto borders). Police/fire and other services mergers into one. Still there were 13 "boroughs" within the city with lots of independence. Then I believe in 1969,,,,those 13 went down to 7 larger boroughs. Then in about 2005, the boroughs were merged and no longer a Metropolitan Toronto, just Toronto.

Mississauga the city on Toronto's western borders, had it's major incorporation of different towns in the 1984 (I'm guessing)

What is this logic?

If Toronto gets its Metropolitan area then Montreal can have theirs. Doesn't mean they get 1/3rd of the country suddenly.

Nobody cares.

Just use the leagues.

If they played in the Greater Toronto Hockey League they are from Toronto.

It's really that simple.

Just gave a little history to a bud. Nothing to do with hockey. Maybe you could learn a little history about Toronto, or former Nucks executive tell me some history of Vancouver.
