The coach stinks

Description
I’ve consistently thought Newsy puts these guys in a box and I don’t like a lot of his usage for our defence. But that’s all fine so long as they can play your system and be sound. Couldn’t be farther from it. Turnovers everywhere. Missed assignments. Losing every race to a puck (usually not even skating to win them). Soooo many odd man rushes why does nobody ever cover?? Why are the D so bad at pinching. Why is there never support. Putting the players in situations where they can’t GO using instincts and then having no structure on top of that, disaster. Seriously what the hell is this team

I say all this because I believe many of the guys are trying to fit in the box Newsy is shoving them in but just can’t get it. And when they play free, they look good, fast, creative and can play as a team.

It could be that he looks like Dobby from Harry Potter and the players can no longer look at him 🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn't get to watch the game but could it be the forwards aren't helping on D which causes the defensemen, that are limited in ability, to try and do too much instead of playing more positionally?

Was at the game tonight…. Brutal from top to bottom. Sprong was the only forward moving the whole game. Seider and Walman were terrible, everyone looked like they were skating in sand.

13 hits tonight. Maybe their energy guys need to be throwing the body a bit more. A couple big hits can get the momentum up and guys should skate a push a bit more.

There was a Wild fan sitting near my wife and I and I hear “they’re so soft, look how easily they fall down.”

The Wild owned that game from start to finish.

This team was never supposed to be a playoff team!!!!

In the past 2 seasons he has added Chariot (32), Ghost (30), Holl (31), Petry (36), Maatta (29), Lyon (31) and Reimer (35). I'm sorry but you don't add all those players to the same team and expect to go to the playoffs. This could be the year our lottery luck turns around. (Not really)

No you’re right. I do forget that at times. Yet they were at least supposed to be battling for a spot in my opinion, either just in or just out. And they still could. But it’s more about the way in which they’re playing. Brutal defensively. Brutal team defence. Sloppy play. And a serious lack of speed, physicality, or really anything that would indicate a passion for hockey, at least lately

Which part of that is hard to understand? Coach puts players in structures and situations and he’s not giving them spots where they excel, rather the opposite. The players are always the ones on the ice, so when things aren’t good enough, we should never blame the coach?

I bet you weren't saying sh*t about the coach when this team was second in the division and playing great hockey. He was probably a really great coach a month ago, right?

Blaming the coach is such a cop out for someone who just doesn't understand what they're watching. The players play the game, not the coach. The players create the turnovers, the players make the bad pinches, the players show lack of effort - not the coach. Etc, etc, etc.

Maybe they were playing WAY over their heads to start the year - ever think of that?
Maybe Larkins injury, coupled with Perron suspension and Kostins injury AND that Sharks loss blew a tire in them - ever think of that?
Maybe losing their hot goalie and having to rely on Reimer most nights has effected goals against - ever think of that?

The coach is far from the real problem. It's a skid, let them shake out of it.

You’re pointing out a lot of big problems with the team, and I would agree with all of them. That doesn’t absolve the coach from my original points. He’s putting the players in a box and they look like they’re playing so restricted. I do know what I’m watching. They have at times played over their heads, but they are quite capable.

I think there’s one point here that can absolve the coach, and that’s if as some people suggest, the players are just tired because of a heavy schedule. But I personally think that’s a terrible excuse for high level athletes. If a team has a good structure, they will overcome that anyways.

The biggest question mark is the team is supposed to be defensively focused, well structured. That is the preach and I believe they’ve tried to bend these players to such a restrictive approach and a) a small mistake opens huge holes b) it is a difficult structure to master. So yes, mistakes happen from the players, the coach is putting them in bad situations. Even as guys like to rag on likes of Chiarot and Holl, they haven’t been bad by any means and can play defensively. Even when the team was playing over their heads, they were blowing leads for no reason other than bad structure. And if this falls ALL on the players, then why has the coach failed to hold any of them accountable over the last 10-15 game stretch that this has reared its ugly head?

Again, you’re bang on with things that have caused the downfall, but signs have been there and for me, it’s not acceptable. Notice I didn’t say fire the coach. But he needs to get his act together fast
