Ok Marner is really good but come on. I'm not a fan of Binnington but it seems like he's pretty much carrying that team right now. Kyrou is exactly a year younger, same birthday as Marner actually..... Weird. But still younger and is a really good player locked up long term. Top prospect and a 1st seems like overkill for what you are asking the Blues to give up.

Binnington isn't a 6 million goalie anymore. Plus he has 4 years left. Leafs are helping the Blues save cap. So that's why a prospect was attached to take on his contract.

This trade is all about helping the Blues out, as well as the Leafs. Both teams gain from this trade. The only question is whether Marner would waive to a non playoff team.

In what world do you get Snuggerud for being given Binnington? And of course directly making Binnington your #1 goalie as you desperately chase the Cup = taking on his contract.

It doesn't have to be Snuggerud, it could be any top prospect. But, regardless, moving Binnington won't be cheap. He's not an asset with that contract and he isn't good enough to win behind a mediocre team. But on the Leafs? He can provide average enough goaltending that can allow the Leafs to win, especially since he is playoff proven.

The Blues aren’t trading their top prospect, first round pick, starting goalie, and top 6 forward who is signed long term for 1 year of Marner. The Blues wouldn’t even do Kyrou for Marner straight up unless an extension is in place.

Heh. Yeah... clear up cap space (for what? to overspend on UFAs?) = spend 11M on one player. And what happens when Marner leaves after on year? Bruh, you think it takes a top 20 prospect in the league to hand you a starting goalie that can finally win you a Cup (all along completely ignoring the Samsonov dump). This is a BRUTAL exchange for the Blues. Horrid doesn't begin to cover it. NHL24 would laugh at this and self destruct in protest.
