2 2nds for Rico? Sure thing!

Not interested in a LHD, especially one sign for 6 years

Trading Graves would be a mighty bad look unless he asks for a trade for future free agents

Graves at 6 years term is far longer than we would have considered signing him for. Anaheim would have handed out a two, maybe three year deal to him as a UFA.

We don't have room on the roster for him at this point, the kids stepped up.

He's had a bad first few months and he's definitely dragging down his D-partners right now. He's playing like a 5/6D and getting paid too much for a capped out team. I've been trying to get hired as the Pen's Interim GM for months just so I could ship him to the KHL. I'm sure they could make good use of him on the Vladivostok Admirals.

Because he is terrible and it was a terrible contract. Been preaching that since he was signed. Pens should dump him any way possible.

Graves-Letang ranked against other D pairs with 300+ min:
Expected Goal%: 50.8% (24th out 40)
Similar to: Bahl-Marino and Hronek-Hughes

Goal%: 55.6% (16th out of 40)
Similar to: Ekholm-Bouchard and Dunn-Larsson

Corsi: 50% (25th out of 40)
Similar to: Dahlin-Samulesson and Lindgren-Fox

I don't see the issue with his pairing or his effort.

Can you guys show me stats or something?

He has terrible gap control, stick positioning, and his passing is trash. Last night he was once again removed from the top 4 D because he can't body out nor defend against zone entries.
At 5v5 he only has a plus 3 goal differential, while Letang is a plus 9, Karlsson a plus 15, and Pettersson a plus 18.

At 5v5 expected goals
Letang w Graves 50.69% Without Graves 53.76%
Karlsson w Graves 49.56% Without Graves 57.60%

He drags down the top 4 pairings he is on and also has terrible offensive numbers. His 5 points at 5v5 so far are behind Pettersson's 13, Karlsson's 14, and Letang's 18.

I'm curious to where you got those numbers. Moneypuck.com gives me the following (though it is not broken down 5v5):

Petterson-Karlsson: 54.7% (420 min)
Graves-Letang: 50.8% (380 min)
Graves-Karlsson: 54.4% (130 min)
Pettersson-Letang: 47.6% (177 min)

I also want to point out these same criticisms were levied against Pettersson 2 years ago. Sometimes a guy has a rough year. Sometimes a new team can be a struggle. I recall a number of Pens fans begging to get rid of Marino as he also was having a bad year. That didn't turn out so well for the Pens.

Natural stat trick. And Graves is 28 year old. Not a younger D man trying to find his footing. The comparisons don't make sense.

Just look at the last month. At 5v5 Graves has been on the ice for 4 goals for and 7 against. Letang 15 for - 12 against. Karlsson 11 for - 8 against. Pettersson 14 for - 9 against. Graves is an offense killer and doesn't help defensively.
