Matt Grzelcyk

Created by: Devsfan25
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2024
Published: Jan. 8, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- I've seen a lot of BOS fans moving Matt Grzelcyk for cheap. I saw one BOS fan moving Grzelcyk to the Devils at half retained for a 2025 4th round pick. I think that may be a little too cheap for Grzelcyk; I think Grzelcyk at 25% retained for a 5th round pick in 2024 would be more fair. According to BOS fans, Grzelcyk hasn't had a great year, but with Siegenthaler out for the next few weeks, a veteran like Grzelcyk would be a good addition

- This lineup would be as of this Thursday assuming Palat and Meier are back while Hughes, Siegenthaler, Hamilton, and Nosek all remain out

- Meier from IR --> Active Roster
- Siegenthaler from Active Roster --> IR
- Hamilton from IR --> LTIR
- Hatakka from AHL Utica --> NJD

Just drop the retention and pick all together. Keep it simple

Something around there. Haggle over a late pick and which way it goes. Maybe Fitzy and Sweeney can arm wrestle and the winner gets a 7th

Idk. Ik Grzelcyk hasn't had the best year, but idt he has negative value. If it costed us a late round pick for 25% retained, I wouldn't mind. Wanna keep as much space open as possible. Another deal I'd be interested in would be a Toffoli for DeBrusk swap

If Boston is moving him it's to fit another player in a trade so retention might be a sticking point

Only reason Boston does this is if they have a deal in place for another player and the other team wants to shed salary. Otherwise they keep him for a vet insurance policy, which I believe is the most likely scenario

They’d have to throw in a pick and I’d retain 50% to clear space for them to make another move.

Gryz+Debrusk+1st for Toffoli 50%+3rd but idk if they’d go for it

This deal still saves the Bruins almost 2.8m; I think the Devils would be fine with no retention, but it'd likely be a 6th/7th going back to BOS as opposed to a 5th

Griz and forbort rotate being injured, it’s like having one player for the price of two.

That could definitely work, it'll just depend on who (and how much $) is coming back to Boston in another deal. Anything after a 4th is a ____chute in terms of drafting anyway

My general assumption has been the bruins get 1 of Hanifin or Lindholm

I think Lindholm is more likely because of Hanifin being a luxury for a team with a top 5 in the league top 4 D, but Winnipeg and Colorado might be more aggressive to land Lindholm
It might be worth it to just move Gryz for a 7th or future considerations and then they can make a couple paper moves sending guys to the AHL to make room for the extra 1.2 million difference between Gryz and Lindholm

I’d do that.
