To clear cap for either Noah Hanifin or Elias Lindholm or both.

When healthy Boston seems to prefer Forbert, Lohrei and Lindholm over him on the left side

A bit but I’m still on board with him. A half decade of fantastic play or 25 games of average play. I’m not getting too caught up in the sample sizes.

Still under 30 and he’s a guy I’d trust to hammer down and carry us to a ring potentially

I like carrier and Trenin too.

Moving quality assets for nothing does. You really think they can't get a 3 -5 straight up ? It's not like he's 34 on a God awful contract and there aren't several teams in need of blueline help. Also think it's a lot closer to the 3.

Gryz has very underwhelming metrics the last 2 years. He’s not what he was a few years ago

You’re either severely underrating Saros or overrating Casey

I have Casey valued at a 1st+3rd
I have Saros valued at 2 1sts
I have carrier valued at a 3rd

I would be happy to replace Casey with a 1st and a 3rd, or with Holtz and then I’d knock down the 2nd to a 3rd+5th

Saros is a franchise level goalie regardless of his down year. Casey is a good college player but isn’t franchise level talent. Fox wasn’t even worth a 1st in return during college

Trotz knows this which is why he wants a massive overpayment

fox was only willing to sign with the rangers. If he was willing to sign anywhere he would have returned more. (he would also just never have been traded).

Fox demanded out, threatening to wait until his rights expired and still got 2 early seconds (very similar to 1st+3rd).

2 1sts for Saros is a massive payment.

It’s paying for Saros as a 10 million dollar AAV goalie over 2 years of term. What more do you expect?

Goalie values simply don’t get that high

Even if NSH were to do a huge deadline sell-off (which seems unlikely, given where they are in the standings), they should be able to get a better return than this by trading those three players separately.

There’s other aspects other than you’re valuing lol. $5m for a top 5 goalie is a legit steal. No other goalie of his caliber comes close to that

Not to mention, Nashville has no reason to trade him. And like I’ve said on all your other posts, devils have no leverage because they NEED goaltending and defense. Teams know this and they’re gonna milk the devils for as much assets as they can. If not, then they can continue to roll with their weak goalie and injured team

On top of selling separately for even better deals

Damn it must have really cost the goalie desperate LA kings a ton to get a goalie and a dman last year while dumping Jonathan quicks 6 million dollar contract. Wait what’s this, I’m being told it cost them a 1st and a 3rd and nothing else?

The devils are a patient org with a LONG window of contention. They will not be pressured into overpaying like a team with aging stars would be.

I understand Saros contract is a steal. That’s why I’m paying so much for it. I’m valuing him as a 10 million dollar player here despite his struggles so far this year

Lol imagine thinking Korpi and Gavikov are elite players like Saros. Also CBJ didn’t care because they’re not competing. Also their GM is literally brain dead hence why they suck

Well it’s either ride out the injuries and likely miss playoffs or massive overpay for a big splash to keep the playoff hopes alive. I don’t see any other way

In a vacuum, Saros would be worth at minimum two 1sts right now (but as has been said already, NSH has no reason to make that trade this season). Given the amount of contenders who desperately need a goalie, there likely would be a huge bidding war. Trenin and Carrier could each likely fetch a 2nd at the deadline.

I don't think I'm as high on Casey as you are.

I appreciate that you recognize what Gryz has been, but this has been a bad year for him. He has been unavailable due to injury, and when he comes back he has not looked good. Giveaways, mishandling the puck, and questionable decisions. He played well in the Tampa game so he might be turning it around. But if he were to be traded today, a 4 or a 5 is probably all he would get. I suspect Boston just keeps him for depth unless they trade him for cap space to bring in a different D man.
