Description
The point of this post is the Zegras trade. Was talking to @Caufield and decided that yes, I would very strongly consider 5OA for Zegras, whom I love as a player and who would have more impact with where the Columbus roster is than whichever prospect they’d take in this draft. Would also consider something like Zegras+Moore for the first alone, just trying other things for this post to reduce roster size and or cap hit (hence the Elvis trade, which please do not read too much into)

I think these are four very solid lines.
Trades
1.
CBJ
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Bemström, Emil
  2. Roslovic, Jack ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I know the Rangers desperately need some forward depth
2.
CBJ
  1. Vanecek, Vitek
Additional Details:
And whatever to balance, this isn’t the point of this post.
NJD
  1. Merzlikins, Elvis
Additional Details:
Elvis > Vitek. Whatever is required to balance, assume it’s in this trade. Devils need a goalie, and Elvis behind a real defense can be excellent (see: his rookie year in a Torts system)
3.
ANA
  1. Peeke, Andrew
  2. Texier, Alexandre
  3. 2024 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Yep, unprotected and likely top five.

I would not dream of trading a top 5 pick for Zegras

Okay, but consider a line of Kent Johnson-Zegras-Laine, though. I like that more now than the 2026 of whichever draftee Columbus would get (zero chance of the puck being first overall, the NHL would never allow that)

Picks 2-5 are all more valuable than Zegras.

Sounds like a line that gets caved in defensively every night

Was meaning to pick your brain, it seems like CBJ is starting to turn things around and has lines with good chemistry forming in Laine's absence, wondering if he is going to be sold off this season to give CBJ a shot at someone like Reinhart who might be a better fit.

That would be ideal. A big part of Florida's turnaround a few years ago was acuiring snarl like Sam Bennett. I like Laine, and when he's healthy he's vital... but he's never healthy, and he's expensive. I wouldn't be surprised to see him somewhere else next season, especially with the likely front office change.
