You don't need Matheson (unless you're getting rid of Nurse some other way perhaps).

Trading Brown does not transfer his performance bonus (FYI in case you thought otherwise). Edmonton has to cover it either by having enough space to fit it this season or carry it into next season.

Harsh reality is that Edmonton is going to be hard pressed to add without first unloading Campbell's cap hit and the cost to do both is going to add up quickly.
Best thing they could do with Montreal is keep Campbell and get Monahan and Kovacevic, both of whom can be upgrades without adding cap.
It at least gets them to the buyout option with Campbell if that ends up being preferable to the price to move him.

You'd be looking at around a 1st and 2nd in value for a serious proposal including Monahan at 50% retained and Kovacevic.
Forget the rest and save it for the off-season where you may have more options.

Yeah this is a rough trade for Montreal.

Brown (because of his bonuses) and Campbell have significant negative value to Montreal. The idea that a 1st, a couple of seconds, Bourgault and another prospect is enough for Montreal to take them and trade Monahan retained, Matheson and a gritty 4th liner is really unrealistic.
