I feel like a lot of teams would beat this offer fairly easily, I hope Edmonton would be one of them as Ekblad is literally the perfect player to make this team a championship contender

Ekblad is better than both Forsling and Montour this trade is counterproductive for Florida

Florida and Ekblad say No, No way is Ekblad waiving for any Canadian team. Especially Vancouver.

They definitely do, Campbells buyout saves 4 million dollars. They would dump Ceci elsewhere if they traded for Ekblad meaning they clear up 7.5 million dollars total. Guess whose being paid 7.5 million dollars next year smile

Isn't he from Canada and building a house in Windsor?

So, He didn't grow up as a fan of any Canadian team, he grew up a Red Wings fan. And he'd more than likely waive for Detroit. Since his new home is only 15 minutes from Little Caesars Arena.

i think the coaching staff disagrees with you. he plays less minutes than both forsling and montour, plays weaker competition than both forsling and montour, has worse underlying numbers than both forsling and montour, and will cost more than forsling (and maybe montour) next season.

forsling/montour is their top pair. they have traded away pending UFAs in the past to make room for other players (huberdeau and weegar) so this would be inline with that same strategy.

this way they recoup a 1st and a 4th for their 3rd most used defenseman, instead of having one of their top paring defenseman walk for free.

Ekblad only has a 12 team no trade list. you really think he will simply put all 7 canadian teams on it? usually players put bad teams on their list to avoid being dumped to a non-contender. i think you're reaching here.

yeah i mean, i guess any team could open up the space buy trading away cap dumps. canucks can do it without making any cap clearing moves so it can be done prior to the buyout window or Free Agency

I agree he would prefer to sign in Detroit but considering he is building a house literally in Canada makes me think he's open to playing there. Like why not just build one in Detroit instead if it's so close? Especially considering it would only be one year

Yeah i could see 100% all Canadian teams being on his 12 team no trade list, He's not waiving for Vancouver pretty much guarantee you that

1 Ottawa - No
2 Montreal - No
3 Toronto - No as he grew up hating them as a fan.
4 Winnipeg - No
5 Calgary - No
6 Edmonton - No
7 Vancouver - Possibly but i seriously doubt it.

there is no real reason for him to have a playoff team on his no-trade list. if he did that, he could easily find himself being traded to a bubble team like arizona or nashville or buffalo or whatever

(this would be assuming Florida is looking to trade him to create cap space, which is of course not a guaruntee but is possible)

The bottom line is Bill Zito isn't trading him, So this is all moot. He's not leaving tax free Florida for high tax Canada.

Actually the Oilers have enough cap space next year to trade for Ekblad and still have a larger roster than they do this season lol. This includes the Connor Brown Cap penalty as well, and I didn't trade away any cap dumps!

nice! i mean you do dump kulak in the ekblad trade so there *is* a cap dump here

tbh i would love to see edmonton do that though. run a 22 man roster with 9 AHL players on it? would make things easier for van to wint the division

9 AHL players? Did you even open up the ACGM? It's virtually the exact same roster that the Oilers are icing right now (except swapping Kulak for Ekblad), you know, the one that's on a 8 game win streak and has the best record in the NHL over the last 25 games. The only AHL call ups were Rodrigue (who has the 2nd highest sv% of any AHL goalie), and Broberg (who is playing pretty well right now).

Now I'm not saying the Oilers should trade for Ekblad, they shouldn't, and he won't be availabe anyways. But It's okay to admit you weren't aware of Edmonton's cap situation!

Fair enough, it's in neither teams control though it depends on who Ekblad would rather play for (I think both teams are viewed as equal) and what teams assets Florida prefers (could be slight edge to Edmonton)

bourgault, rodrigue, broberg, pedersen, desharnais, janmark, lavoie are all AHL quality players. 36 year old bonino and 37 year old ryan i guess are more like, 13th forward cailbre players than AHL players
