Description
Was really impressed with Connor Murphy’s game and noticed he is an older guy with the blackhawks with a bit of term on his contract and little to no buzz in the media. That’s usually the type Chevy targets in TDL. Any blackhawks fans wanna enlighten me about his value? I’m kinda guessing at the better of our two ahl d prospects (trading Stanley is just disrespectful) and an early 2nd rounder. Please give thoughts.

I don't like Murphy but he has to cost more than that.

Don't think there is any desire to trade Murphy. They don't really have a replacement and that blue line is young enough already. Would take more than he is worth I would expect.

Chisholm's numbers are impressive for sure but our pipeline is loaded with lefthanded defensemen. The timeline to relevance is still a couple of years away putting him at 26 but when we have Korchinshi (19), Del Mastro (20), Allen(20), Kaiser(21), Philips(22), and Vlasic (22), taking a 24 year old in a trade when you're looking for futures doesn't make a ton of sense. Could I see Kyle Davidson having interest in Chisholm? Definitely because he is really good but I don't see him making a lefthanded d-man a priority trade target.

Murphy is part of the leadership group and tasked with babysitting our young d-men. Korchinshi was paired with him for quite a bit of the first half while gaining NHL confidence. I have a hard time seeing Davidson sacrifice that kind of leadership and protection for the youth just yet. I think if he gets moved it will be in the final year of his contract or he'll re-sign depending on needs at the time.

Murphy is more valuable to the Hawks right now than he would be valuable to another team. What the Hawks are asking him to do in respect to leadership & “babysitting “ would not be what other teams would see as his role if he were to join their team . Therefore it would be extremely hard to find a trade that both teams could agree upon. Hawks would want a package coming back that would make it worthwhile to part with him. It is unlikely that another team would view him as a good enough player to offer up the kind of package the Hawks would need. This Will of course change with time.

What everyone else said. haha

There are multiple aspects to what makes Murphy valuable to CHI, and very specific reasons that would make him valuable to a contender. Defensive minded, plays top 4 minutes, physicality, leadership qualities. Off the ice he is also a leader/mentor, a real professional, and by all accounts he is just a good human being. Which, personally, I love when guys are tough with a heart of gold. Content of character is important to me. Great qualities to have around our young impressionable and developing young team. General consensus among CHI fans seems to be somewhere in the late 1st to an early 2nd area with an added sweetener of some kind dependent on the pick, and if you want to add retention, a late first with a good prospect and maybe a little extra thrown on top.
