Sheary won't waive his NMC to play in Calgary. Hell it's probably on his 16 team M-NTC with all of Canada and California too.

Gee a 7th round pick, And a 3rd round pick that's two years away for a guy on pace for a career year of 55 points. Yeah i don't think so. Sprong will easily return a 2nd round pick.

Huuhtanen is way better than a 7th round pick

Who cares, Most 7th round picks have less than 1% of ever making it to the NHL, Detroit needs pieces that can help us now. not 4-5 years down the road.

Am I missing something?

Detroit is 2 points behind Tampa.

Why are they trading Sprong?

And why would Yzerman accept such a lowball offer?

He's not Tampa's GM anymore. 🙄

It makes tons of sense, He plays in the Finnish league where basically every one lights it up. Botton line we don't need him keep him. Sorry but Tampa is only 2 points ahead of us and we've 2 games in hand. Tampa is far from getting the final wild card spot here.

I've got nothing wrong with Detroit not wanting Huuhtanen or wanting to make the playoffs. I was just commenting on how it's dumb to say someone's trade value relies solely on where they were drafted

But if he's so good then why would Tampa want to trade him?

They could use a stud RW playing on a cheap entry level contract, no? 🤔

You would think so, They more than likely are going to lose Stamkos. And most of their core is getting up there in years.

I can't see Tampa losing Stamkos. He'll take a paycut and retire there.

If Detroit is out of the playoffs by a decent margin at the deadline then sure. Would like more for Sprong but value isn't awful. I don't know much about the Finnish League but he has nice stats there, a lot of the time that doesn't translate to the NHL though.

the liiga is known for being one of the lowest scoring leagues, he is currently 6th in points in the league as a 20 year old and won rookie of the year last year. I agree it makes no sense for detroit to trade sprong right now though

The offer is actually a bit generous, Huuhtanen is probably worth a high second at the moment and there is also a 3rd in the deal. I do agree that it doesnt make sense for them to trade sprong though

Kakko put up similar numbers Liga 38 points in 45 games and he has been a big disappointment.

But draft position does factor in until the player has been in the AFL for a couple of seasons. Then is really doesn't matter if you were taken in the 1st or the 7th round. Especially with The European Leagues where they do have a lot of talent but the style play is so different it makes it hard to predict how they will do in North American pro hockey.

I do agree draft position shouldn't be the only factor but it does factor in just as much as how many points he scored in a European Pro League the year after being drafted.
