I don't see Guerin trading Hartman at the Trade Deadline.
Minnesota pass.

Yeah Hartman is going to waive his NMC for Vancouver, After Guerin just extended him for 3 years. Yeah i seriously doubt that happens.

Well you're certainly not getting Hartman with term for a single late 1st, so yeah, look elsewhere

If he did, then both sides accept this trade offer.

pretty much market value for a 30 year old c who tends to score at a 40-50 point pace

Minnesota isn't interested in trading Hartman for your perceived market value

I think Hartman would have been way more valuable without the extension tbh.

Ya you are probably right. ****ty they extended him and Foligno though IMO. Those guys on expiring deals would have been hot commodities at the deadline this year.

thats the risk of extending guys early, same thing happened to calgary re-signing huberdeau and weegar.

they probably couldve flipped hyby last deadline for a nice retunr if they hadnt re-signed him

Why is his extension ****ty? His rated market value was $5M+ going into the season. He signed for below that at $4M×3, with costs brought down thanks to both the NMC/M-NTC given and his desire to stay in Minnesota.

A player of his ilk making $4M on a solid contract that can get 40-50 points per is highly sought after in the league. His value hasn't cratered at all. Sure, it's not I'm a $5M dollar player making only $1.7M stupidly good type of value. But it's still under market norm, even with the extension.

He's 29, and won't be 30 until next year. September 20th, to be exact.

So, for now. He's a under 30 player making under league norm. So it's hardly fair market value for him.

To be clear I don't think this offer is enough to get Hartman. And I also don't think the extension is a bad contract.

The only reason I say it is ****ty they extended him and Foligno is I think both of those guys would have had insane value at the deadline this year had they not been extended. Their current deals originally had no trade protection and were great value contracts and they're the type of players that are usually a hot commodity at the deadline for a playoff run.

th extension has a nmc that was backdated to this year. if they hadn't signed him, they could deal him as a rental with retention to any team in the league that wants him

They obviously didn't want to trade him, that's why they gave him an extension with a NMC. Is this hard?

they didnt want to trade him when they were a 100 point team. now they are on pace for 78 points and they handicapped their ability to retool

They weren't going to trade him regardless, because then they'd need to turn around and replace him somehow next year. That's why they signed him when they did instead of waiting to see if they'd be a 78 point team. They still plan on being better again next year.

yes. trade him for a first and a 4th. sign a 3c in free agency for cheaper than 4 million, use the first to acquire a top 6 winger who is younger than 30. basic re-tool strategy, most bad teams looking to compete the next year do this rather than doubling down
