"Good for all teams"

Explain how going from Elvis to Campbell (aka, going from a mediocre, but overpaid goalie to a completely unplayable black void and only saving 400k a year for the same length) and only getting a 2nd for it, makes sense?

The idea is interesting at least.

Edmonton gets the shortest term and lowest cap hit. I'm not convinced a 2nd and a 3rd is enough as Campbell is easily the least desirable of the three.
That makes Columbus the team who benefits least and they would need more to even consider it.
Merzlikins' contract has bad cap and term as well, but at least he's league average. I doubt NJ bites on that contract though.

The way I see it, and the market can prove me wrong, is all three goalies have negative value with Campbell being the very worst, then Merzlikins and then Vanecek.

Columbus is not close to even a playoff team any time soon. Then dump their negative value goalie, taking an even worse negative value goalie but gaining a 2nd round pick and saving some cap hit/cash.

New Jersey get a goalie with the biggest rebound potential and a 3rd while dumping their below average goalie. It's a risk for New Jersey for sure but Merlikins seems at least motivated.

Oilers pay the most future and get out of the worst contract. They also take a risk that Vanecek can at least rebound to be an over priced backup.

Jackets would rather pay a third to the devils and Elvis for vitek if anything.

I think that's where the hangup is. Everyone is assuming Columbus is fine being hot garbage for another 3 seasons, when that's just not the case. This team dug a hole with a 9-game losing streak and blown leads like the 2022 Canucks, and are too injured, young, and dysfunctional to pull ourselves out this year. Next year we should be at least competing for a wildcard, the year after should be competing for a divisional spot.

That, and with so many players on ELCs now due in the next 3 seasons, is why Columbus can't afford to just take back a cap dump without significant compensation.
