Trade deadline - bring on the cup

Created by: OBC_Drinking_Buddy
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 12, 2023
Published: Jan. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What I hope REALLY REALLy happens. Come on uncle Ken. Don’t do anything too stupid and completely sell the farm. This is all that we could need to win it all.

Maybe 1 more 6/7 dman for added depth in case someone gets hurt.

Then fingers crossed skinner keeps it up, doesn’t choke in the playoffs and stays healthy. I would be ok finding an additional back up for insurance.

Not sure I feel that Monahan is the guy I'd target, but at the very least I'd want 50% retained- both for cap savings this year & maintaining an extra buffer to cut down Brown's bonus overages next year.

I don’t know if Monahan is a guy that the Oilers need.
But this trade seems decent.

Problem is that the way the Oilers are currently playing those picks are going to be late rounders. If I were Hughes I’d consider an early second and Lavoie… if Edmonton had an early second.

habs have a 6-7th dman making less than 800k, Kovacevic, upgrade the 2nd to a 1st tho and maybe lower the other pick if Monahan isnt retained

Yes cause he would be in most teams top 6 and there are 6+ teams already reportedly interested on trading for him. Besides that, what does the Flames giving us a 1st to take him 2 years ago have to do with anything? Savard was traded for a 1st + 3rd does that automatically mean that's the starting point? How about Domi is his value still the same as Anderson's since they were traded for eachother with nothing else added. Values and circumstances are always evolving in the NHL, last year the Cap couldn't give away Mantha, this year a number of teams are calling about his availability and are being told he isn't available, so what's your point?!

I wasn't talkin about Savard who's now worth a 3rd and I think u understood my point. They got rid of him cuz he's no longer productive and injury prone.

No, they got rid of him cause they wanted to sign Kadri and didn't have the cap to keep him. They paid a 1st cause there was a risk he wouldn't be a productive player again, that risk has gone out the window since he is on pace for 50 ish points. Last year no one wanted to take Drouin and he had to sign a 1 year prove it deal with the Avs after 2 or 3 years of mental health/injury issues. This year he is playing back to his potential and the Avs could get a 1st for him, circumstances matter, the Avs aren't moving Drouin any more than the Habs are taking less than a 1st for Monahan. Similar players, similar cap hits, similar injury histories, similar production this year, but because Monahan is a Hab he is worthless in your opinion.

And I think you overvalue a late 1st round pick, we aren't talking about a top 16 pick that has the potential to win the lottery, we are talking about a pick that is likely in the 18+ range in a weak draft who has a less than 25% chance of ever making the NHL and less than 5% chance of ever being an impact player.

LMAO, that 2nd round was better this years entire 1st round except for the top 5. Again relative value escapes you
