losing him for nothing set the franchises rebuild back 2-3yrs... the trade above would do the same thing

    Meh - it's a nostalgia driven post.

Brings me back to the last time the habs were any good... before the spiral that it became.

Still baffles me that Bergevin just let 2 out of 3 players who were consistently in the top 5v5 lines in the league, walk for NOTHING.

Contract negotiations were by far Bergevin's weakest skill in the later half of his tenure... truly horrible.

Greatest move Bergy pulled was getting Danault and 2nd for a couple of veteran depth guys.
Worst move he pulled was telling Danault he was nothing more than a 3c and then letting him walk.

I mean they werent that great. Carey Price propped them up. They were actually an incredibly boring team to watch like Carolina Hurricanes boring. The downfall started once Gainey didnt offer a contract to Mark Streit and let Koivu walk. They were playing catch up ever since.

I'll never forget NOT trading Sheldon Souray at his highest value in 2007 as a upcoming UFA when he was a 26 goal scorer from the blue line with a top PP in the NHL and they missed the playoffs. They were always trying to simply 'get in' the playoffs and see what happens. Bergevin continued the same nonsense.
