Given than Tanev is worth a late 1st as a rental, and Samsonov has negative value (though not a lot for Calgary because they’d just waive him and go with Wolf and Vladar), this doesn’t look like much value for Markstrom. Does Calgary see his contract as a liability?

I'd consider it but I don't know if Flames management would, they like Marky more than I do. wink

well then there a lot smarter than you, because Marky is a legit top 10 starting goalie.

I have a feeling a trade like this one has a chance. Calgary has Wolf ready and they need to get him in there, if they aren't getting anything for Vladar, it might make sense to explore a Markstrom trade, which is something that's in the news. Goalies tend to not get traded for as much anyway. Samsonov is only in there to match the cap. He's expiring, he isnt a negative asset for Calgary, they can flip him elsewhere or send him to the minors or just send him home for the rest of the year, it doesn't really effect them.

I have been thinking about posting a similar trade idea, but consider this one Minten, a 1st, and a 3rd for Markstrom and Tanev which is probably a little light but I think its close. Tanev is going to get traded for a 2nd I think, maybe 2 3rds if the offers don't get high enough. Minten, Abruzzese, a 1st, and 2 3rds is probably hitting the sweet spot. Abruzzese is a meh prospect, but he has built in chemistry with Coronato so I've heard the Flames are interested.

They sure like him but you already have Vladar and now Wolf seem ready to give an go in NHL so one need to lets is place to the young buck. Between the two Markstrom have the biggest contract and value so he's more likely to be use to help in an retool ?

Tanev brings a 1st or Minten, there not moving him for a 2nd,with 50 percent retention.tanev has said hes open to resigning with the flames.the leafs cant do it without the retention.

the only reason i think Marky fits better in jersey or canes, is because they can afford Marky, leafs even with samsonov gone would be in tough.

Tanev is not worth a 1st for a rental. He is too injury prone and probably is 1 injury away from being on LTIR for the rest of his career.
