I see the grit in this GM but why does Colo do that? Just signed colton, Chytil still dinged up

Fair but I'd love to hear why not. Huge fan of Colton's game since Tampa and would add much needed sandpaper that the NYR lineup lacks. It seems like Colorado is looking for a 2C and even though I have never been a huge Chytil defender, when he is on his game he is a very good 2C. Injury concerns are understandable for sure.

Colorado in the market for a 2C after Johansen didn't pan out like they thought. Healthy Chytil would for sure be the 2nd best C on that team. Chytil is signed through 26-27 on a similar deal as Colton and he is 3 years younger. Chytil is on his way back to NY, likely to return to the lineup in the coming weeks. Risky but I could see Colorado rolling the dice here, especially when they seem to be all in on another run at the cup.

Additional cap even if only a couple of hundred thou is another point. They'd roll with Colton at 2C first imo. Plus teams don't usually trade guys they signed just this year in that way. Add in the fact Chytil is erratic and the injury concerns and it's a no brainer for me. Keep Colton.

Edit: If the Avs were going to trade anyone it would likely be one of Girard or Byram ahead of trading out one of the forwards. Also besides the first line the only line that has developed any real chemistry is Wood-Colton-O'Connor. I doubt they'd want to break that up either.

Very fair. Wishful thinking as it's been years of praying for gritty bottom 6 players who throw hits in the postseason, something NYR has been lacking and Drury refuses to address.

Just the wrong target imo. Would Chytil potentially be of interest to the Avs? Quite possible I'm sure. Colton's just not a piece I'd see them moving.

Who could you see them moving in a deal like that? I haven't gotten to watch as many Avs games as I would have liked to so far this year.

Just saw your earlier edit. NYR is definitely in the market to shake things up on the back end. That Wood-Colton-Oconnor line is a line i wish NYR could replicate. Bottom 6 is all AHL level talent or aging has-beens besides Cuylle.

Not really sure. Hard to know what the Rangers need that the Avs could give (I'm worse than you, I don't think I've seen the Rangers above once this year). It's also hard to gauge Chytil's value at present.

Yeah I think I must have done it about the same time as you replied, it happens. I can see you've gone for left D help there but the Avs don't have a guy like Middleton (big basically lol) if that's what you're after. I think if Chytil hadn't been injured and had performed similar to or better than last year then either of those (Byram or Girard) could have been in the conversation. Other pieces balancing out whichever way.

God awful Minnesota trade for NY and they decline the Colorado trade as well. Also, Wheeler isn't going to be sitting.

Somehow all three things you said were wrong.

I am not sure what kind of value you think Miller has but it is not a lot. He is BAD and has been for a while now. This is no secret and other teams watch film, believe it or not. Acquiring a better defender in Middleton and some much-needed bite for the bottom 6 with Duhaime would be a win.

NYR would be foolish not to take that deal with Colorado as Chytil is one hit away from forced retirement. Colton is a very solid middle 6 center who also adds physicality for the playoffs. If anything, Colorado says no.

Wheeler should have never been signed in the first place and the only way he remains in the lineup is if Drury fails so badly at the deadline that he's forced to keep him in the lineup to replace AHL Brodzinski or Bonino.

NAH I am correct. Miller is a young top 4 defenseman who potential is high. I agree that Middleton is a better defender and Duhaime would add bite but the bottom 6 needs more scoring, not so much grit. You could get Middleton, Duhaime and a first round pick for Miller but Rangers would not do that.

Colorado wouldn't do Ross for Chytil since nobody knows if Chytil is going to play again and Colorado signed Colton this past offseason so I don't think they would give up on him just yet.

Regarding Wheeler, Drury values his veteran leadership but it is clearly evident that he does not have the wheels to keep up in today's game. That being said, I don't see him sitting unless they get two RW at the deadline.

This is the correct take.

Miller would net the Rangers a pretty good haul if Drury decided to part with him.

If Drury is smart, he keeps Chytil out until the playoffs Tampa style and uses the LTIR monies to get a RW and scoring depth aka Duclair.

Wheeler should sit too.

Chytil coming back has completely ruined any chances of improving this team. First round exit at best this season.

I don't mind the Greer trade. If the Flames could get a 4th that would be even better.
