Just curious if Kent Hughes would have interest in bringing in a guy like Kuzmenko?

No, because he's 28 and UFA next season so I can't see them actively trading for him.

Maybe he'd be a contract sent back in a bigger deal

    Easy pass MTL.
    MTL doesn’t want Kuzmenko.

Yes, he would. But I wouldn't expect an overpay out of Kent.

He has another year left on his contract. So not a UFA until after next season.

I wouldn't mind him but there'd have to be money going back the other way (Anderson?) and he'd have to be cheap, I wouldn't give more than a 3rd rn and even then thats a stretch

Ya I wouldn't expect a lot back. I'd be looking at Kovacevic as the primary target.

I wouldn't be looking to take any salary back as Vancouver. Basically a move to clear the salary and for MTL to take a flier on Kuz to see if he can get back closer to the player he was last year.

Then there should be a pick attached to him, we don't need to take on money but if there's futures attached its appealing

why is MTL so scared of UFAs
You can resign played ya now
MTL has to try to compete at some point now

ya I mean we would be fine with parting with Kovy, something has to give from a salary perspective. I know it would be kind of weird cause he was traded at the start of the year but pearson kind of makes sense in addition. Or we are able to fix our cap elsewhere before that trade (or a 3-team trade).

You can resign UFA when the time is right.
MTL is just two drafts into their rebuild. The time to compete is not now.

    When?

If before the deadline, probably not unless there was another incentive. If in the offseason, depends on cap space, other plans and near non-existent cost (including cap in cap out). Montreal's current front office hasn't targeted a specific player in a trade older than 23, they're unlikely to give anything of value.

In this scenario, depends on the cap space, but I doubt they'd be super interested.

Montreal was in the 2021 Cup Finals, that some point isn't next season.

I ran the trade (Kuzmenko for Kovacevic) on the trade machine simulator and there are no cap issues for MTL.

My idea is Kuzmenko is a talented player that could have real upside in Montreal either as a longer term fit or by playing well enough to be flipped next year at the deadline for a decent return.

I appreciate the insight here though. Sounds like consensus is they might take him but don't expect a big return and there is certainly the possibility that they just aren't interested in adding to the cap for next year in this manner.

MTL doesnt need a small winger next season, since they already have Gally, Caufield, Newhook, RHP, Roy, Farrell....

The only interesting Vancouver wingerfor MTL might be Podkolzin.

Canucks management still seems pretty high on Podkolzin, but they may move him in the right move. Not sure who Montreal could offer that would get the Canucks to move him. Only guy I can think of that might be somewhat realistic is Barron, but not sure if the Habs would move him or if he’s someone the Canucks would want
