A 1st is fine.

Foegele wont be traded and he doesn’t even make sense for the Sens. He’s a rental UFA just like Tank.

Who do you think would get moved to clear money? Foegele has been great but I wonder if they can sell high in him and add a legit top 6, maybe even guenztel. For D, I don't see any huge upgrades that makes it worth moving Ceci or kulak (Ekholm esque). Could move Campbell but then you're talking multiple 1st/ equivalents

Hypothetically, what would be the cost of getting Tarasenko half retained? Just a 1st? Or what else added to a 1st? Assuming Edmonton magically had 2.5M in space.

Last year:
Tank (50% retained)
Mikkola (#6 D-man)

For

1st
4th
Blais (Bottom 6 wing)
Hunter Skinner (C prospect)

So like it’d be a 1st + a bit.

for 50% retained for 1st, 4th,

Only to clear cap. They could do this a few other ways also. The only reason the 5th is added is there are 2 teams bidding that Tarasenko would be willing to waive for that are around the same position in the standings.

Foegele isn’t a cap dump for the Oilers. Oilers can clear cap in other ways.

Flames aren't helping the Oilers without a massive rival tax

Come on, trading Foegele out as a cap dump is silly. He's outperforming Tarasenko so far this year.

Foegele v Tarasenko

I'd love to add Tarasenko, but this isn't the way.

He traded Zadorov to a Pacific rival. What makes you think he won't do the same with Tanev if it's the best offer. Unless you think Tanev is returning more than a 2nd and 3rd..

I agree, the cost of a 1st to swap Foegele out for Tarasenko is too much. Was mostly seeing cost for Tarasenko from sens fan perspective. Not sure who else they can move to make add a player.

I'm still taking Tarasenko over Foegele any day. Even if the analytics don't indicate a significant difference.

Having both players would be ideal. But trading one for the other might not improve the team, so there's no point in doing it.

Pacific rival and provincial rival is very different and yes in the right circumstances with a max retention Tanev could be worth more than a 2nd and a 3rd.

Potentially. Depends on what the market is in a few weeks and if any other significant D become available before then.
