Parise Frost Kahkonen

Created by: Anus_McLeod
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2024
Published: Jan. 26, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First, from Philly's perspective, I could understand if Frost wasn't available for anything other than a young C. There have been ups and downs, and I'm not really sure what the deal is. Tough to get a read.

From Colorado's perspective, I think this is arguably an overpay for Frost. However, it really helps the cap situation and holds onto the team's most important futures, while hopefully plugging their biggest hole. I would certainly offer Behrens and a 2nd before this, but that might not get it done.

For Kahkonen, I feel like the price could be low since a lot of teams will ask for retention, and SJ only has one slot remaining. Happy to send Prosvetov back their way too if needed.

Anyway, if I'm off here lmk!

I can see why you say that but I think it might be in the neighborhood if there is no retention. The goalie market looks tough to predict this tdl though.

I’d say a 4th for Kahkonen with no retention is pretty spot on, but that’s an overpay for Frost.

Agree on Frost, but he's been good lately and it may be worth it since his salary is low for next year too. I have mixed feelings.

This seems pretty reasonable all around to me.

I think Frost at 2C carries some risk, but I like the upside and the cheap contract. $2.1M next year will be helpful once Landy returns

Exactly. The team wouldn't have to move anyone next year and would be in a strong position. If Frost doesn't work out it would surely suck, but if he clicks it could be huge.

Great job.

The Kahkonen trade could definitely happen.

The Frost trade probably wouldn't imo because of where Philly is. They haven't been this good in a while and if I were them I'd be trying to add to the talent rather than sell it, even for an overpay like that. I also think they'd want nothing to do with RyJo, but I'll let Flyers fans give you that answer.

Value wise its fine, but he has been pretty good for us this year and last night Grier was pretty open to keeping him past this season so I’d guess it would take a little more to get him. He has a positive goals saved above expected behind the worst defense in the cap era.

I think it would be smart to keep him in SJ. For what it's worth, Colorado won't be re-signing him, so a reunion could very well still happen.

I'd say add Prosvetov or another goalie prospect other than Annunen to the deal (in case of the whole 'waivers thing') and you're about spot on value-wise for Kahkonen. Frost is possibly an overpay now but if he even improves slightly in consistency it won't be, so pretty close as well. That said PHI may still not do it as they're in a playoff position as of now (though could still easily fall back). My only issue with Frost is that's another guy due (RFA or not) at the same time as Bo, Rants, LOC & Georgie (and now Malinski as well!)

I really like the idea of Frost. Sure there is some risk to it obviously. But i think it’s manageable given the potential upside. I think you’ve made a solid offer here if Philly were to sell.

Yes. Ritchie and Gulyayev are not on the table but any other prospect or combo can be discussed imo.
