These are the Sharks you want to trade for

Created by: pavelski_tip_in
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2024
Published: Jan. 29, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Teams are not hard and fast, but I tried to address team needs. I know that many teams are up against the cap so for some of the multi-pick deals imagine the later picks (i.e. 4th and 5th rounders) end up going to a 3rd party to add retention.

Sharks have played themselves out of the worst draft odds and need to ship out their positive players to get back in the basement.
Trades
1.
SJS
  1. 2024 5th round pick (TBL)
TBL
  1. Carpenter, Ryan
Additional Details:
Great 13th forward/ 4C who plays responsible minutes and has somehow produced a positive +/- for the worst team in the league. Can be had for a late mid round pick and has a small cap hit.
2.
SJS
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Duclair, Anthony ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Although he's not a 30 goal scorer post injury, he still can provide some top 6 scoring or play on an offensive-minded/rush 3rd line. He's the budget option for teams looking to add offensive depth.
3.
SJS
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (EDM)
  2. 2025 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Kähkönen, Kaapo
Additional Details:
Coming off an atrocious 22-23 season, Kahkonen has re-established himself as a reliable backup option despite playing behind the worst defense in the league. Would have add contract coming back to SJ to make the salary work somehow.
4.
SJS
  1. 2026 3rd round pick (DAL)
  2. 2026 5th round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Has played well of late when paired with a solid D partner. Can play either side and brings playoff experience. He's the budget 6th D deadline acquisition to solidify any D corps.
5.
SJS
  1. 2026 2nd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Sturm, Nico
Additional Details:
Has played well since coming back from injury +6 in his last 10 games with the Sharks, the worst team in the league. His point production is back on track after putting together a stellar 22-23 campaign. Can play at 3C or as an overqualified 4C. Helps on the penalty kill as well. Comes with a low cap hit and term so need a high pick to make the deal worth it (despite him playing a depth role).

Nobody is paying those prices for Kahkonen or Rutta. Or Sturm for that matter.

Edmonton has 4 goalies who are all playing well right now, I doubt they're in the market for another. Plus they don't have the cap space.

Why mess around with a 3rd / 4th for Kappo, a price no one would pay, when you can get a 1st / 2nd.

Campbell
1st
2nd

For

Kappo

Only scenario we would trade for kappo
