Description
Edmonton wants to improve after this crazy winning streak. Canes give them 3.5 million in space and no first coming back.

Add depth in broberg, who will take over the 3LD spot in 24-25. Add zucker who has the ability to score a lot more than his current rate. Canes take a gamble on him to improve his shooting percentage.

Canes add more picks to get aggressive at the draft.

he is an enigma. But your PP does suck and your 5v5 defense is so good, you can likely absorb him with little issue

He's a douchebag not the kind of personality the jets bring in, also the personnel isn't the issue with the powerplay at all it's a systems and injury problem

The Edmonton cap dump is a good idea. Campbell could still put it together again and Broberg does still have a shot at becoming a solid defensive D at only 22.

Even with the 1.5 million retention per season by EDM, CAR is still eating 14 million over the next 4 years so Edmonton is probably missing an additional first from that package going to Carolina. For reference Marleau cost the Leafs a 1st for one year at ~6 million (which ended up being Jarvis), not to mention I don't see many teams wanting to "help" EDM dump cap considering the streak they're on currently even in the Eastern conference.

The calculus:

1. The goalie market sucks again next year so maybe we get lucky on a Campbell and at least he would be a 2C next year. If not 2.375 million in the AHL isn’t the worst thing.
2. Canes generally dislike LTIR. They can’t manipulate the cap like they like too
3. Broberg was rushed and will come into his own soon.
4. Jarvis thing is a little different because Marleau couldn’t be bought out with cap savings. Campbell can be for either party. A 1 year, 6 million cap hit penalty is far worse than a 11 million one spread out over 6 years.

Edmonton can buyout Campbell for about $1.5M per season. If they trade him with that retention, it won't be with assets + taking back bad cap of similar value. This is literally saving Edmonton $100k - less, depending on how close they are to the upper limit when they place FA on LTIR.

Broberg is dominating in the AHL right now, he's too good to use as currency to save $3.5M, let alone a mere $100k.

Coghlan is 25, has scored 4 points and is -4 in his past 10 games. Is that what you call dominating? tears of joy

Broberg, 22, has scored 10 points and is +8 in his last 10 games.
