DNVR Trade Deadline Moves

Created by: Cypher
Team: 2023-24 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2024
Published: Feb. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1 . Start of the year, Jenner had no issues with Babcock sharing pictures, but the younger guys did. Shortly after, Babcock got fired. Perhaps CBJ wants to go with a different leadership in the locker room and/or Jenner is tired of being on a bottom feeder.
2. Avs pay a premium to get rid of Ryjo in Calum Ritchie, but upgrade a more suitable backup. Plus ARI knows pros already.
3. Can never have enough D depth. Meyers' time seems to be about up with the Avs.

I would pass on all 3.
Byram for Jenner is more appealing to CBJ since Jenner is not a set and forget 2c, in a world where he is traded.
No thanks on Ritchie++ for a back up goalie
Hellz no on Lyubal's pizza delivery service.

AZ passes - rebuilding team is not trading young G doing real well for G they waived, 32yo (solid) F for 1 year @ 8m (NASH retain 50%) , and another 2nd in couple of years. not saying johansen isnt a real good player but he doesnt fit into rebuilding team plans. and why would he want to go from contender to rebuilding team?

I'd accept the Jenner trade, it's not the ideal return just because we'd hope for a 1st + prospect that could be a Jenner replacement, but the overall value more than makes up for that.

And FWIW: Jenner is a set-and-forget 2C you don't have to worry about. Set him up net-front with a scoring winger and playmaker/two-way guy, and you've got yourself a nicely balanced, defensively responsible line.

Can't see AZ giving up Ingram, at least not for a G they let go and Ryjo.

That's why ARI is also getting Calum Ritchie who's doing great in the OHL after opening the season on IR (4th in PPG)

he looks like a solid prospect but for AZ to trade their solid young #1 G for past prime 1 year rental, prospect in jrs (when AZ has deep pool), and a 2nd in years (when have a million picks) I think team will lose the clubhouse and fans support. in the past these trades made sense not now, the message this sends is not really trying to compete and want to perma-rebuild.

Quotting someone you disagree with helps. I highly disagree about set and forget 2c. He would be a compliment to the Avs wingers but he is another Colton type tweener move. I would do a Ritchie/pick deal but Byram should be out of the question

I honestly didn't think it was worth the time, for you or me. Arguing about whether or not a player I know well is a 2C on a team I know little about, with someone who is (I assume) a fan of the other team who likely isn't that familiar with Jenner, isn't typically productive or well-supported on either side. Was more of a "here's my two cents".

2C (ish) on a poor team isn't worth that, even if he might cost that to acquire. Basically those are all bad to the Avs.
