how about just marner for doughty?

I know LA fans are crazy high on Clarke but I still think LA adds a fairly decent amount to their side or they retain on Doughty which is tough for how much time is left on his deal. I love Doughty but $11m for 4 more years is a tough pill to swallow for a 34 year old D man. Even if he's a great piece for us this year and likely next.

I would do it. But I know the rabid leaf homers would lose their mind.

I think we'd lose our minds rightfully so lol but I don't think those two forming the basis of a trade is crazy.

It's just always so tough trading away a young, star forward in their prime for an expensive aging D man. Even if he is a great player like Doughty, whom trust me, I would love to have.

Like think back to Pronger being traded at 35 years old. It was Pronger and Dingle for Lupul, Sbisa and two 1sts (21st overall and 29th overall). I think that's less of a return than Marner is when comparing the two, even if we take hindsight out of the equation, Lupul nor Sbisa didn't look like they'd be remotely close to the calibre of player Marner has become.
