Savard Tanev Laughton Maroon

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2024
Published: Feb. 2, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Big Deadline Adjustments.

we keep all our prospects, but gut our future picks.

Defensive gets a big boost. Laughton would be a very nice add for 3 years. Maroon gives a good element of size and physicality and experience for the playoffs.

Goaltending takes a bit of a hit. But needed the cap for the other moves.

We could send McMann down and trade a mid pick for a 3rd goalie if needed.

Thoughts?

Take out the 2nd round pick going to Toronto and you have what it would take to get Savard out of MTL

You may be right! Time will tell what his value is. This is the most I would pay though. I do like this trade for both teams. BUT I can see the scenario where a team pays a lot for a guy like Savard. I still views his value closer to a 2nd than the 1st +. But time will tell. It's hard to predict these sometimes.

I personally don't believe Savard is worth a 1st. I expect his value to be closer to a 2nd.

So late 1st + Timmins (call him a 5th in value) for a late 2nd (it's Colorado's) and Savard. Big difference between a late 1st and late 2nd.

But I could very well be wrong in terms of Savards value. What do you think he is worth?

Hey I'm not doubting Habs fans again!

Do so at your own peril!

If they say they're getting a 1st for Savard then they're getting a 1st for Savard! 😬

What do I think he's worth?

I'm not saying anything!

I already ate 1 big $hitburger today.

I'm not eating another one! 😬

Habs fans can see the future! 🤔

HAHAHHA!

I personally thought Monahan was getting the 1st. I had Barbashev as his direct comparable. I was right on him. I just don't see it for Savard. But like I said, I could be wrong!

It's more that the Habs wouldn't have anyone left to play on the right side. Next TDL may be a different situation but right now it would take a good offer to pry him out of there with no one to replace him

That is one big massive overpay for Laughton. Holmberg looks like he secured a position with his good play. Samsonov is needed.....he's the best Leaf goalie now. And to give away picks too?

I'm skeptical that Savard is worth a first. Maybe with retention. The bigger issue for Montreal is if moving up 20-30 spots in the draft is worth moving your only experienced RD, a veteran presence and guy you can throw to the wolves AND use a retention spot for this year and next. The answer is probably not. A 1st (or close enough) is probably what it would take for the effort to be worth moving him.

Timmins is a throw in that Montreal doesn't need.

Savard is arguably playing better hockey now that he did when Tampa Bay gave up a 1st rounder for him. You can easily get a return similar to the Chariot return a couple years ago. Plus he still have a year under contract at 3.5M which is not much. Don't think Habs will retain any money in a Savard trade. They want to keep that slot open to retain on a Jake Allen deal.

Bogosian 34 this season. Tanev 35 this season. Savard 34 this season. Gio 41 this season. Leafs would be in the old-timers division. Giving up anything for 1 year of these guys is just bad asset management. imo. This team isn't a cup contender and trading away anything higher than a 5th rounder is a waste of assets.

How about keep the 1st and the 2nd the same.

BUT if the Leafs reach the conference finals they add a 4th. And if they win the cup, the 4th gets upgraded to a 3rd?
