If we are out of it, Lou will likely let them decide where to go for very cheap to chase a ring. Any team for any amount. Realistically either a 7th or FC. There will 10000% be teams out there wanting them for this price, too.

    NYI
    1. Broberg, Philip
    2. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
    3. 2026 2nd round pick (EDM)
    Additional Details:
I dont know how the money works or any of that. But a 2 year rental who will score north of a 40 goal pace with Edmonton, is strong defensively and plays a playoff style of hockey while having expirience will easily get this in return. Nelson should get similar or even more than what Lindholm got imo and this seems to be a bit less
    EDM
    1. Nelson, Brock ($1,500,000 retained)
    2. Reilly, Mike
    3.
    NYI
    1. 2025 4th round pick (CGY)
    Additional Details:
Good depth piece on a team whose defenseman always seem to be hurt.

oilers decline, bob staufer has really been pushing the narrative that he is an important part of the future and usually when he is that confident in something he's usually right like the campbell, brown and perry signings he was gassing up before they happened. and with Ekholm-Nurse-Kulak our left side is very good being left alone with broberg ready for any injury that occurs to step in

Edmonton can't afford Nelson even with that retention.

That is significantly more than the Lindholm price imo

I like Broberg to NYI. There's nowhere better to both develop his defensive game as well as cover his current defensive deficiencies.

1sts even out, Jurmo and 4th dont matter. Kuzmenko still a 20-25 goal scorer getting overpaid for one year (hed probably go for a 2nd or so) then Hunter Brzustewicz is dominating Kitchener. Broberg imo is a year from being on waivers. He has very good analytics but reminds me a lot of Valimaki, no opportunity and becomes a casualty at some point due to poor asset management.

Plus Brock has an extra year, is better and cheaper.

I feel like this is pretty fair but even if it was a 3rd instead of 2nd id be fine. 2 years of retention is a lot

    1st+2nd=1st+Bruz

    Kuzmenko was a cap dump

I’d say you might be able to get the 4th+nothing prospect, but not Broberg assuming you’re asking for the Lindholm price.

Maybe if he’d waive and you’d eat the Evander Kane contract that could be incorporated

I think that a Nelson trade would have to eclipse a LIindholm return, if Lou were ever capable of selling. Since the beginning of the 2019-20 season, Nelson's averaged 34.7 goals/82 GP and overall scored at a higher rate per 60 than Lindholm (2.62 pts/60 vs. 2.52 for Lindholm.) Elias gets a checkmark for being the superior defender (Nelson is no slouch but Lindholm's a perennial Selke candidate) but I think that extra value gets overshadowed by the fact that trading Nelson now means whoever gets him gets two playoff runs out of him.

Taking back the Kane deal would be a non-starter, to me - he doesn't save much money, he's got an extra year of term, and he's a worse player. I think that if Edmonton wanted to do something like that, it would have to add a solid asset on top of it.

I’d agree with all that. Just saying if your comp is the Lindholm deal I think this exceeds that. I think the return on Lindholm is being overblown. Realistically it’s the classic late 1st +cap dump/filler+prospect with a 4th and a nothing prospect tacked on

Not enough for the Isles to move Nelson.
