Description

I saw someone propose this deal on Twitter and not gonna lie, it sounded very intriguing.

Ryan Johansen has been having a sub-par year for Colorado, but was much better playing for Lavi. His cap hit is higher than Goodrow, but expires after next year.

Not sure if Colorado needs "bottom 6 grit", but in terms of cap hit, Goodrow gives them $400k of space this year and next year (vs what they'd have with RyJo), and by the time 2025-26 rolls around, the cap will have gone up enough that Goodrow's cap hit will be more reasonable for the type of player he is.

Rangers can throw in a low pick or prospect to sweeten the deal, and this would let them spend more to upgrade at that 1RW position at the deadline. (Eberle?)

Avs arent taking on 2 extra years of a cap dump. Worst case Avs will pay to dump Johansen - it would cost significantly more to dump Goodrow with that extra term. A depth player and a late pick doesnt make up for that

It would work out better for the Avs to buyout RyJo than taking on Goodrow. I appreciate the new idea though

That's the thing - I haven't watch many Avalanche games this year so I don't know if RyJo's performance is more "disappointing" or "useless"

Goodrow isn't a pure cap dump - he's still a useful player, just not at that cap hit.

Avs are set on bottom 6 guys, after need to add a too 6 player.. next years cap increase is already allocated to landeskogs return. Even then they're probably over.

Parise cogliano oloffson kovalenko O'Connor kirivanta colton wood macdermid meyers and tufte all fit into our bottom 6 and if we don't move ryjo then he's there too.

Colorado needs someone to.play in between lehkonen and nichushkin and a decent backup goalie

I love the grit Goodrow brings, but the biggest issue is term.
Avs fans will all agree the Ryjo hasn't worked out but he only has one year left. He is still VERY solid in the dot!

The only way this would work, is if Goodrow could be relied on, solely as a C. Avs don't need Wingers.

All in all, there will be better options available down the road, for the Avs to dump Ryjo.

Term is the biggest issue here. Avs can't afford to be taking on that term for Goodrow. Add to that positional need etc and it should be an easy pass.
