Why would Brodie waive his NTC to go to CGY?

Not even close to the price that Craig Conroy is seeking for Christopher Tanev.

And Adam Boqvist is out for most of the season.

CGY is not interested in having TJ Brodie back on their roster, and they want a second-round pick, not a third-round pick.

Boqvist is signed for multiple seasons and I know that Conroy is looking at a first rounder for Tanev and at minimum a 2nd plus for him. I don't think Tanev moves needle much for us this year and gus don't want to see a 1st rounder traded for him or one of our top prospects.

Thus the title, I wouldn't want to go much higher than above offers for either player.

You are right about the pickm they asked for an added 1st with Lindholm trade. I don't want to trade a 1 St for Tanev, and we have no 2nds. I don't see Tanev as a big needle mover and if a team offers more which likely will then trade is no go.
As for Brodie, he gives them another player to keep on current trend where they sell but get back a player with potential to bounce back and keep fighting for playoffs. If dealt well prior to deadline, Calgary can eat salary as they have 3 retention slots still available to deal Brodie for a couple more lower round picks.

He used.to play there, likes it there and Calgary is still fighting for playoff spot. If out, Calgary can trade him with retaining salary for lower round picks at deadline.

that is maybe enough value to pry boqvist?

hard to say because they've tried to clear the RHD logjam and no one has bit yet, so it could either be that he's just not valuable or perhaps jarmo has just played hardball. im judging this solely on the picks, timmons and voit are clearly nothing filler here.

Timmins offers a versatile depth defender for them with offensive abilities. But yes mostly a filler. Voit has had previous good years and developed nicely and was ready for the AHL this year but an eye injury kept him out most of the year. There is still a chance of develop with him as a decent prospect. Then there is the picks to grab something else for Boqvist as he is still considered a defenseman with top 4 potential.

yea i get the theoretical value in timmins but he just replaces boqvist with worse play at the same position, so it doesn't help our logjam. for that reason, he's extra worthless to CBJ specifically vs other teams that may have a lack of depth.

similarly with voit i just dont see us valuing more undersized low-to-mid prospects at wing but i know he did absolutely tear up the OHL. i know there are teams that could absolutely use some prospect wing depth with potential but as a team with gaudreau, dumais, brindley, and malatesta all in the org long-term, i just can't imagine jarmo valuing a 5'10" project of a prospect that highly.

Keep Timmins for sure. No interest for another replacement level RHD on a team with four of them already (which is why Jiricek is miffed). I'd prefer better value for Boqvist, personally, but since he can't stay healthy he is a distressed asset. Lose the fifth and Timmins, make it Voit and two thirds and I'd take it.

I don't argue that at all. It is all hypothetical and seeing what maybe could be of value. As you mentioned, I have no idea what Jarmo values and could be way off. To be honest, I can see Jarmo trying really hard to have Cowan as the prospect and then that could be a sticking point where no trade happens at all.

I wouldn't argue that, and then leafs could trade Timmins for a mid round pick for salary purposes. That is fair both sides as Boqvist if can remain healthy has top 4 potential over Timmins.

Leafs have enough non-physical d-men they don't need to add Boqvist.

It's not all about the physical. While I do agree that physicality is something missing. We also need pick moves. After all of dubas' trades last year, the ability to move the puck out of the zone significantly decreased. That is why we signed klingberg. Yes that was a colossal failure.
We need both physicality and the ability to move the puck out of the zone.
Boqvist has puck moving ability and ability to be a top four blueliner where Timmins is essentially maxed at a 6th or depth defender.
