Well Chiarot was signed as a UFA so Detroit didn't have too give up anything to get him. Detroit was able to bring Petry home with a cap hit of $2.3M for a 4th round pick and Lindstrom who at best is a 3rd pair Dman. So you can't really compare them to this trade.

Right.. but you also can’t compare those two defenseman to Matheson who is miles better..

My point was that Yzerman makes moves that are “dumb” in the eyes of pretty much everyone (not me, I see his vision). That doesn’t stop him from doing them.
