The difference between Barzal and Pettersson is bigger than a mid 1st round pick

Agreed we would probably want Dobson + Barzal + Holmstrom +1st for Petey and like Hronek and Isles will say no. Petey to Isles is a deal I don't see happening. Buffalo/Columbus make more sense as they can offer value and not gut their system with a downgrade at C for us.

I'd seriously consider this if I were Vancouver. You need to look beyond the player himself and consider the economics and the options this would bring to the club. Barzal is signed for 7 more years at a very reasonable cap rate of $9.150M. Petey will be $3M more than this. What can you do with $3M more? You could easily afford to keep Lindholm (you can't sign Henrique as suggested here). You could keep Blueger and Lafferty, and you can still ice a strong defense. Vancouver should ask for a 2025 1st rounder from NYI, that way they can choose to flip it at the TDL next year if they're in a good position to take another run.

I love Pettersson but it makes much more sense for NYI to keep Barzal. Shifting from Pettersson to Barzal isn't going to make us that much better of a team.

No wai!!1

Petey is worth at least Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin, five first round picks and 30lbs of gold.

You guys are high

Pettersson is on an expiring contract while the cap is going up massively next season. No matter what you think of these two players, the difference between the two is not a first-round pick. Not even close

Look, Barzal is a good player. but he hasn't scored more than 20 goals and 62 points since his rookie year. Meanwhile, Petey has scored 30+ goals multiple times and is on pace for his second straight 100+ point season. They are not in the same class.
