I simply can't get behind the logic of "this guy has a full NMC that restricts his movement"=price goes up.
The NMC brings his value down, not up.
tbh as NJD I wouldn't bother wasting my time with negotiations unless I knew Markstrom would waive beforehand.
It's an interesting strategy from Calgary to try and turn the NMC into a + somehow, but I doubt fitzy gets tricked
I don’t disagree, I’m just saying that’s what they’ve said. I think it’s more about respecting his NMC and not bothering him or considering moving him unless it’s an offer they can’t refuse essentially forcing them to approach Markstrom to consider waiving. He has a Young Family with his 1st child just anrriving about this time last season, so it’s more about that then trying to draw more value in a return for him
That said, Markstrom has recently said he’s open to whatever makes sense, so moving him is definitely a possibility and again, I’m not suggesting it would cost more. The benefit for the Flames is to open up a spot for Dustin Wolf. We haven’t been able to move or find any interest for Vladar and freeing up cap space is appealing in moving Markstrom as well
We wouldn’t actually want Vanecek, but if we could have Vladar & Vanecek compete and hopefully improve their values in the process, we could move one of them in the off-season or by the deadline next year. Vanecek + Vladar + Wolf is close to what Markstrom Cap Hit is anyways
Finally I get the Age debate, but many Defensemen and Goalies play great till 40. I’m more against having older Forwards and their games falling off after 32.
