Description
Saw a rumor that NYR and BUF have spoken about Middlestadt... retention is really for no reason, can be omitted if BUF will have other suitors for retention spots. My preference would be to trade Kakko for someone with retention under contract next year, but a cost controlled RFA could be interesting.

I did the 2025 1st because allegedly Dolan wants the 2024 1st to stay with NYR because of The Sphere thing. Feel free to add a prospect or other pick to make up for that if necessary.

For the other two trades, sub whatever similar tier prospect necessary to get them done.

That's pretty awful for Buffalo.

I'd ask for Schneider on top of that.

NYR wouldn't do that. They have no other RHD to offer, which I know BUF are in need of. Not sure if any other forward prospect could swing the scales.

Allegedly they are shopping Middlestadt, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered making this

Buffalo doesn’t do that and Rangers probably can’t afford his extension

Most of the reputable sources have poured cold water on that. Some teams are calling, because that's their job. And the Sabres are listening cause well, that's also their job lol. Like 95% of the time it goes nowhere and the player will re sign.

Fair enough. I thought I had remembered in the past that some of their contract talks were sour, or that Casey had wanted out before. Maybe that was when he wasn't playing well... he looks good the last 2 years over there so perhaps that's all gone now

Very high 1st + Kakko easily gets it done. Like Buch & Zegras, BUF and most teams would not want to pay his next cap and would not command a giant return

He's been a pretty good soldier through it all actually even when fans were all over him. Even if they don't want to commit to him, they could just elect to give him a 2 year deal through arbitration. That's probably how this plays out.

Nope, not at all
Very unlikely the Sabres move him

Maybe in the offseason if they can’t agree on a contract- MAYBE

@mvp13
Let's be clear, your post "How Much".
The first is two years away and Kaapo may not be much of anything.
@sens65 nailed it, ADD Schneider.
Buffalo is not selling so there would have to be an over pay.

That’s fair too
But the Sabres would most likely need to get Schneider back if they were gonna move Mitts to NyR

Rangers will only offer picks and prospects to add players to roster. And that isn’t of interest to buffalo

Mittelstadt is not just some random player though, he's a legit high-end 2C who's young and extremely skilled. No reason to sell him for pennies on the dollar. Braden Schneider will never be as valuable as Mittelstadt in his entire career.
