Calgary could probably do better to tanev, but surprisingly reasonable

There's been some fog around what Saros' value would look like. But with recent events of Markstrom almost going to NJD for a 1st and Holtz (fell through because of retention), then I am taking no less if I'm Trotz.

This package might be a bit much. I think a 1st and Nadeau + another mid piece would be a good asking price.

I like Saros, I do - but that feels like a lot to give up for him. Maybe I'm just high on Nadeau, but thats three firsts for a goalie not having a great season right now and only signed for one year after this one.

And I'd rather keep Chatfield in the lineup and not to the Tanev trade.

Chatfield is not good enough, and he's shown that since the ASG. Tanev's a clear upgrade, and the cap space was there

The issue is, I don't thin you can use Markstrom as a comparable. Saros has been way better his entire career than Markstrom has, Saros is like 6 years younger, has a better cap hit (albeit with less term). Maybe this is done in the summer and it comes with a Saros extension, but this is the kind of deal Carolina makes and sleepwalk to the Stanley Cup

Being stuck with the human anchor known as TDA certainly does not help but his metrics have been way above average.

I do agree. As a Preds fan, I'd take this and RUN. I just don't know if somebody would pay that much for Saros, or any goalie for that matter. It's just hard to gather goalie values. I dunno.

Glad people can recognize Saros for what he is, though. Now the issue is trying to pry him away from Trotz I guess. This package is definitely good enough though

Yet, over the same span, DeAngelo's metrics are fine... and Chatfield's underlying are not way above average, they are average. Combine that with his inability to position himself, and you get a liability in the playoffs. Getting Tanev, who is above average, is a clear upgrade and it makes this team so much better

I agree Nashville would probably take this, the only thing I'd bring up is that Nashville might want prospects closer to NHL ready and would probably be looking more at Morrow than Heimosalmi.

I can tell you that isn't happening for a goalie. Morrow's probably signing his ELC at the end of the year, and is going to be vital to replenishing the right side of the defense going into next season.

Not disagreeing. Simply stating that the Preds were looking for NHL ready players and both Nadeau and Heimosalmi are at least a couple of years from playing significant minutes in the NHL. While I think the value is there for this trade, NSH probably looks at getting NHL ready guys and if Saros is going to get dealt I think they could get them whether its from the Canes or not. Something I don't think enough people realize is two teams in the talks for goalies are Carolina and New Jersey, division rivals. You don't think that Trotz may get an offer from 1 team and take it to the other and say if you don't give us better he's going to the other guy and you might have to face him in the playoffs. I think that'll make certain things change as far as who is off the table and who isn't not to mention Nashville can always send another player with Saros like a Dante Fabbro

The equivalent of three first round picks AND more, for a goalie…..that’s awful.

As a huge proponent of Saros to Carolina. I like this trade, though I’d hope we wouldn’t give up 2 1sts. Maybe make one of those a 2nd or 3rd instead.

I think a lot of Canes underestimate the value of a truly elite goaltender. Saros is having a down year, but he has played at a Vezina caliber for much of his career up to this point. He is worth the price tag.
