Take a step back to take 2 steps forward

Created by: JeffGorton
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2024
Published: Feb. 14, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Now the trades are missing pieces like draft picks and minor stuff like that but the core of the trades should look like this

Leafs fans will probably lose it but yall need to retool for 1 year, get whatever assets you can for expiring contracts and get younger. Matthews, Nylander and Rielly all signed long term so dont have to worry about wasting a year or 2 trying to fix the roster

The Leafs aren't any better. No way centre Minten is NHL ready in October, nor Hirovonen. Cowan is a winger and it's a big jump for him to the NHL. Ain't no way Kakko takes a deduction in pay or is he a first liner.

Not even the wildest Ducks fan thinks that Mitch Marner wants to play for Anaheim for 6 seasons or more.

Hi bud. Gonna be interesting on where Marner lands in 25/26. If it's just $$$$, I think won't be the Leafs. But what team wants to spend that cap on a winger???

You seem to ignore the take a step back for 2 steps forward. They arent supposed to compete with this roster. And Kakko does take a pay cut because hes barely an NHL caliber player rn. But he has the intangibles to be a solid player next to Matthews.

This team in 2 years would be an improvement to the team that stays mediocre because they think they need to spend 45m on 4 forwards

I meant to tell you that my Julie went to join your Carol on the 17th. We'll be planting a tree for her next to Carol's in the spring.

God bless you all there.

I'm confused. In two years, the Leafs have the choice how spend about 23m with Tavares and Marner gone via UFA, so no that don't have to spend 45m on four forwards. Certainly doesn't mean that want to spend about 12m on Gibson and Zebras. Plus the NMCs might come into any trade with Marner and Gibosn.
Virtually all teams spend to the cap, and many of them aren't any better than the Leafs. So what's the point about he Leafs spend 45m on four forwards? Haven't the Rangers been just as medicore lately, with just a bit difference approach to cap allottment?

Sorry to hear about your Julie. Seems that the two of you had a great life together. Best wishes to you and you loved ones.

By the way, I don't think I've told you. The picture of you and Carol's marker is on the front page of my computer. So I see you and Carol memory daily.

Gibby doesn’t waive for TOR. Marner doesn’t waive for ANA. And ANA doesn’t want Marner’s contract demands impacting their baseline for signing all their young stars. We’ll happily keep Z on his sub $6M deal

Schrödinger’s Kakko is simultaneously barely an NHL player, and also a good candidate to play wing with Matthews.

NYR says go get lost. We don't want any part of Tavares, with any combination of players going to TOR. And Tavares clearly wants to be a leaf so that's where he belongs.
