As a fan of neither team I would still with confidence rather have Nic Dowd and the 2nd more than Kaapo Kakko. Kakko's worth at this point might be a 2nd round pick and will probably drop in the years to come if he doesn't progress.

I actually disagree on that point. Kakko still plays an NHL-level game, sometimes the points don't come for players and Kakko is currently finding his way out of that with 3 points in his last 5 games. Caps fans know how much young players can be stifled under Lavi's system

I am not denying that, but there isn't much evidence that Kakko will be anything more than middle 6 defensive forward. Not a bad player, but in my mind that only commands a 2nd.

You need defensive forwards who can chip in 40 5v5 points on every team lol. I don’t know why fans act like every single forward comes into the league is expected to be a PPG player

Rangers decline. Kakko may not be the "30 goal scorer - 80 point guy", but he can be a 20 goal scorer - 40-60 point scorer.
Also, he is starting to heat up in the point department. No need to trade him when his value is the lowest...

I clearly said he is not a bad player. I would take Kaako Kappo on my team for what he is worth. He is definitely not worth a first rounder at the same time though. Like I said, Good player, 2nd round pick is fair value.
