Calgary sources say Markstrom to NJ is a done deal

Description

I guess in Calgary, they don’t listen to National reporters, local beat writers…they follow a couple posters on a two websites: one called Calgary Puck that are supposed to be 100% accurate. And one called HFBoards. They have claimed they have broken news on previous trades before and have always been accurate. Both appear to be sourcing one another in some regards (and sourcing a few anonymous twitter accounts).

They say the Markstrom to NJ is 100% confirmed and done. If before the end of their game last night, details began spilling out. Do not know who all the pieces are yet.

This is what their “insiders” know of trade:

1. Deal was done yesterday, they had to delay one day until Vladar came off IR and allow time for Markstrom to waive NTC.
2. Paperwork has already been filed with NHL central registry
3. It definitely includes Mercer, Casey, two 1st and another prospect
4. Not sure if that other prospect is Holtz or in addition to Holtz.
5. And maybe three picks total
6. I know if there is any retention, but sounds unlikely
7. It does not include Hanifin as he played last night (Markstrom did not).
8. Could includes Vanecek going to Calgary, but sounds unlikely.

Lots of people have really random connections. The Lindholm trade was leaked like 3 hours early by a random reddit user.

The users OP is referring to have leaked trades or signings well in advance before so there is merit to them. If it actually comes to fruition is a completely different story

If this is true, oh man Conroy is the best GM in the league. Markys worth a lot, but all that would be insane. Without either Tanev or Hanifin too. Doubt it is true, but one can hope.

Im usually very biased towards the Flames and can sometimes overvalue our assets, but good lord that is an absolute king's ransom, i'd be genuinely ecstatic if we managed to get half that.

I feel this Trade is coming together, but believe Vanecek (most likely) or Daws will likely be a part of it as well.

Fitzy & Conroy have put too much time and effort in to let it collapse and an Elite Playing Goalie like Markstrom could push NJD to not only make the playoffs, but advance and possibly be cup contenders as well

You just feel the air is different around Markstrom

Calgary fans: It’s a done deal and the return will be massive.

NJ fans: Another classic Fitzy smokescreen…probably means Gibson or Saros is real target.

It really is find of funny that fans are seeing two complete different stories here.

If NJD are gonna pay a ton in assets, they might as well pull the trigger now and benefit from Markstrom’s hot play

I do believe there’ll be some form of retention though. Whether CGY pays it or they compensate a 3rd Team is the question

With you on that.

But Calgary Puck and HFBoards have users that a number of Calgary fans seem to believe are legit (I have no idea…I am just recently learning of these places)…and they are reporting the deal is done, all sides have signed off, paperwork filed with NHL, etc.

But no else has said anything.
