as much as savoie and the first are tempting (along with curiousity of seeing what thompson+ehlers would look like), i selfishly dont want the jets to do it

So in order to get Ehlers,
we’d not only have to give up Savoie & a top10 pick,
we’d also (essentially) have to give up Skinner, plus Rosen &
a 2nd to get someone to take his contract

I like Ehlers- a lot actually- but there’s no way he’s worth all that either.
We really don’t need to make big crazy moves
Just need a top4 RD, & a bit more time for the kids to grow up & mature.
Don’t forget, we are the youngest team in the league,
and will likely be even younger next season (since it’s probably Okposo, Comrie & Girgs’ last year with us)

I know it’s not happening as fast as we all want,
but we really are in the right track

Totally understand your hesitancy to trade a player like Ehlers, but if they aren't willing to utilize him I would say that they would probably be willing to trade him for a young forward with great top 6 potential and a pick that will probably be a top 4 defenseman

Skinner will need to be moved or bought out anyway to give Tuch and Quinn pay raises so not so much an Ehlers move. I don't think we can wait any longer, our window was open last season, wasted an open window this season, and now Dahlins and Powers deals kick in so there is real urgency to get in the playoffs next season especially with Tampa and Toronto showing decline + Boston will have to come back down to earth sometime, I'd rather be prepared for it

We’d ONLY need to get rid of Skinner somehow IF we were bringing in a guy like Ehlers

Now Ehlers is younger & better than Skinner,
but is the difference between the two :
      Savoie + Rosen + a top10 pick + a 2nd ???

      Sorry, but NO WAY
That’s just way too much dude

Not $9m worth for four more seasons.

The proposal with the Hawks is interesting but I don’t see that being enough for taking on the remainder of Skinner’s contract, there would need to be a 1st round pick included.

Hawks might consider something like this if Skinner will waive his NMC to play out his contract on another rebuilding team. Rosen is a very good prospect who should fit nicely with the way the Hawks want to play. Another 2nd is always good to have. Skinner is still an effective offensive player and his cap hit won't be an issue for the Hawks the next two seasons. It's the final year of his deal that might be an issue for the Hawks when Bedard and Korchinski need new deals and the Hawks likely want to start playing in free agency.

Please accept my apology for butting into your conversation.
Let me make a few points.
So we have to move out three future assets and Skinner to make room for Ehlers, but then we sign him to a contract for ONLY $1,000,000 less but it will extend for 6 years longer than Skinner current deal.
So how much better is Ehlers that Skinner.
Over the past 3 seasons Ehlers has played in 158 games with 56 goals and 129 pts, while Skinner has played in 204 games scored 85 goals and 179 pts.
It appears Skinner is more durable, but accounting for the extra games Skinner scores 0.42 goals/gm and 0.88 pts/gm while Ehlers is at 0.35 and 0.81 respectively.
Neither PK and Skinner xGA over that period was 2.98 and Ehlers was 2.65, neither are great.

Methinks it is better to keep the three futures and Skinner over the small upgrade that Ehlers may provide.
Let me add Skinner's contract expires the year before Rosen, Kulich, Savoie and Ostlund may be looking for raises.
With Ehlers on the payrole it will be more difficult to manage all of he contracts.

There is my penny and a half, shoot holes in it if you wish.

Let's keep Jeff who wants to play in Buffalo and is a team player.

CHI absolutely has to accept that, if BUF offers. Like @gretzkyghosts explained, it doesn't make a ton of sense for BUF, unless there is some acquisition they want to make or a raise that BUF absolutely needs to give, but not for Ehlers. If anything, you move Skinner to let your younger players step into a larger role, not to bring in more bodies and large contracts.
