I like the starting point of 1st + Grizzy for Hanifin.

Going to require more especially if it comes with an extension.

Thinking he signs after, not as a condition of the trade.

Devils say thanks, but no thanks. Maybe Holtz or 1st…wouldn’t be both.

If there trading for him, they would have a good idea if they can lock him up. You correct sign and trades don't happen all that often, but trades then a signing do happen (see Hampus Lindholm comparable). They obviously knew they could sign him or they wouldn't have given up so.much just for a rental.

Hampus Lindholm is a VERY rare case of a player being traded with an extension in place. Do not think it’s the norm or try and use it as a comparison to try and increase values. Most rentals are traded as just that, rentals

Bo Horvat another example.

Most valuable players aged 26-30 that get traded usually some with the idea of an extention. Ex Chris Tanev is most likely going to be a rental for most teams trading for him.

Still grizzly coming back would.be Boston making the money work on there end, all I'm.saying that even as a rental I think that's a good trade proposal to build on.

Bo Horvat did not get traded with an extension in place. Negotiatons started after the trade.

Hampus actually was (the reason the extension wasn’t in place before the trade was because if it was, the retention the bruins needed to fit him would have applied to all 8 years), and so the contract was signed the next day

The point I am making is the the acquiring teams probably already talked to the agent and pmayer about an extention prior to acquiring the player. So yes, in Horvats case the primary negotiations may have started after acquiring but they probably had an idea during negociations.

its just disjointed. the teams worse. are you buying? are you selling? you've gotten some futures but also hurt the cap moving forward.

Disagree that the team is worse. It's younger with more short term cap flexibility. Team can make noise in the playoffs but is built for more than just this year.
