Leafs aren't a good match for this kind of return with Mangiapane. They are one of the top offense teams in the league already and need help on defense and penalty killing. While Mangiapane does do a little bit of PKing in Calgary, he doesn't do it particularly well enough to be much help. He won't get much PP time in Toronto so everything about his numbers will just end up worse than they are now and at 5on5 he's barely outscoring the left wingers Toronto already has in Knies and Bertuzzi.

Are you a closet Edmonton fan?
Tanev half retained + 2 3rds for a 1st?
The pair of 3rds are not remotely necessary.
This is Edmonton after all

Fair deal for Tanev. But too much injury risk. Oilers should avoid and spend the first elsewhere.

Holtz for Markstrom sounded like it was the package Conroy agreed to last week, but they could not find agreement in the retention (and cost of retention).

Just based on historical norms, for 2.3 seasons remaining on deal

$0.7m retained = 5th round pick
$1.2m retained = 4th round pick
$1.7m retained = 3rd round pick
$2.2m retained = 2nd round pick
$2.7m retained = 1st round pick

I'm sure that Toronto would rather deal for Chris Tanev.

You can only retain on three players at any one time.

I don't understand these Mango to Leafs at all. Mango is worth his contract at 2.9m but certainly isn't worth anywhere near a first. Heck the Flames traded the superior Toffelli for a third.
Think Tanev is fair trade to some team. But Hanifan ask is probably too high,
