Created by: FireLordZuk0
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 19, 2024
Published: Feb. 19, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Idk if this is why the wings are scouting, but id assume its for a goalie and I expect Swayman wants term and a bag. Ill get fleck for doing this, i can feel it already lol.
Trades
BOS
  1. Fabbri, Robby ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. Reimer, James ($750,000 retained)
  3. Veleno, Joseph
  4. 2024 1st round pick (DET)
  5. 2025 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
the 1st can be for 24 or 25. Bostons choice if they want their 1st rder back or the wings 25 pick. Veleno is a very good bottom 6 center and cost controlled as an RFA while Fabbri very much fits in with Boston as a steady forcheck winger.

Boston fans might hate but, this is a fair trade
Option on the 1st rounder
Young-ish bottom 6 center having a career year
Fabbri 50% off that can help with 2nd\3rd line scoring production when healthy
Reimer to backup the rest of the season
An additionnal 2nd rounder

Boston would rather keep Swayman and move Ullmark but, this is more than a fair offer

I almost did GhostBear over Fabbri and the wings would take Shattenkirk. Would that make it better or worse? But I agree, theyd rather move Ullmark and wings would trade for him too, but he isnt playing today so why scout a game if he isnt playing ya know?

Honestly if I was Boston I'd rather keep Shattenkirk, he's bottom pair and has helped a team win a cup, so even if Boston had the cap space I'd keep him

Yeah, for all we know Detroit could be scouting Geekie but it would make sense that they are after Swayman lol

Fair or not, I don’t believe the Bruins will trade Swayman. He fits the timeline of Pasta and McAvoy. If he’s traded, it will likely be in a package that brings the number 1 or 2 center instead of futures

Personally, I believe the most likely scenario is Detroit is looking at a young forward for a fourth line swap.

My guess is any of their expirings. Maybe a young player like Lauko.

They could also be scouting Dallas

Boston is not trading Swayman. That is not all that intriguing if they were to either.

ya, just no shot. the players are all just white noise. nothing of interest for an asset like swayman. the picks are nice, but not even in the conversation for swayman. a first for ullmark? sure. that's reasonable. this junk for swayman? no shot. not even in the ballpark. quantity over quality.

the only offers that pique the bruins interest are ones involving a player detroit likely views as a non-starter.

If Swayman is getting moved Kasper or Danielson would have to be included

Which goalie in recent history has been moved for more than a 1st and 2nd? Luongo didn't get that, Roy didn't get that, Hasek got a 1st and a player slightly more productive than Fabbri that left after 30ish games in Kozlov.
Varlamov got a 1st and 2nd, that first (even though Washington traded it) became Filip Forsberg
Andersen got a 1st and 2nd, those picks both bust to be fair
Bobrovsky was moved for a 2nd and 2 4ths
A star goalie isn't really neccessary to win, so their value is limited

what 25 year old goalie that's a clear top 5 goalie in the league at minimum has been moved?

but let's play that game. Cory Schneider. Very talented young goaltender that had played well as a backup - a far cry from Swayman's performance and resume - got the 9th overall pick. I think we can both agree that the 9th overall pick is worth more than detroits 1st and 2nd, given that it looks like they'll be in the playoffs.

so, we've got a guy significantly better than the one comp, who got more. so ya, its not in the ballpark.

and also why would you or I care what the picks became? picks are capital, not players.

And was that trade worth it for NJD, NO? Horvat or Swayman, it's Horvat all day everyday and twice on Sunday. Goalies aren't super valuable assets because you don't need a superstar to win.
Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Oettinger, Saros and Hellebuyck are ahead of him, top10 sure but not top5
You act as if he's won a vezina or will win it this year, he hasn't and he probably won't
Is he a difference maker in the playoffs? His stats say he isn't, so what are Detroit over paying for?

riiiiiiight.
i'm not, "acting," like anything. i'm just stating what i would call objective facts. Swayman has been a top five goalie this year.
He was a top five goalie last year, overshadowed by the vezina winner.

so if you think these guys don't have much value, show me an example of a starting goalie, 25 or younger, who is playing like a top five goaltender getting traded.

if you can't find one - move along. this is just a really poor trade concept
