Is it just me, or is it unacceptably risky and unrealistic to have exactly one NHL defenseman under contract on July 1, having traded away five defensemen under team control, two firsts and three thirds?

I don't think that you're really serious -- you're just blowing off steam at the way this defense was constructed.

For the CGY trade, I believe you get one or the other - if you ask me? I like Tanev more for the playoffs; he’s the better defender. For the CAR trade, I think CAR says no and also McCabe is a solid Top-4 defenseman who has physicality as well so I say keep him. I would love to acquire Nick Seeler but I think you overpaid for him. Ilya Lyubushkin isn’t as good as he was in previous seasons so I don’t know if he helps out the defence immensely. Also, no point in acquiring a TOP-4 defenseman from CGY if you’re just going to give one right back: Prospects and picks only.

That package sucks for the Canes. Besides, Pesce isn’t waiving for Canadian teams, so it’s a rather moot point.

And to make it look apocalyptic, theyve added FIVE expiring UFA dmen and both goalies are expiring UFA (to go along with 5 expiring forwards).

This off season would be awesome, with no picks, few prospects, and trying to fill half the team with scrubs without a lot of cap
