Additional Details:

Sorokin just signed a 3 year extension with CSKA in the KHL, but apparently Sakic wants him. Varlamov connection? Sorokin was ironically fishing with him in COL when news of the extension broke. I'm not convinced he'll join NYI so if they want to take the risk, be my guest.

COL also gets a blue chip, NHL ready forward and defensive prospect in addition to the higher of NYI or CGY's 2018 first and second round pick in a deep draft. If Sakic declines this forget it. Duchene will only get traded for McDavid...

Counterpoint: Tavares for Bigras, Greer, Grigorenko, a 1st, a 2nd, and Matt Nieto! Had to add Nieto because Tavares is slightly better than Duchene.

Not a fan for either team, so from my neutral perspective, I'm telling you that you're waaaaaay overpaying for Duchene (though it seems to take about as much for Sakic). You'll regret it fast!

i love watching duchene play but he is not nearly worth what some of these teams are offering! I guess when there arent many players like that on the trade block/FA it makes a difference

Islanders lose the rights to Sorkin after this season and he would become a FA and free to sign with anyone. With his 3 year extension in the KHL his NHL rights have no value. Dal Colle, a few picks and a b level prospect isn't enought for Duchene.

They have through summer 2018 to sign. We'll see, I wouldn't completely rule out the Varlamov connection as discussed. But even AFTER the news broke about his CSKA extension the Avs were rumored to want him.

That's not even comparable considering the fact that Tavares is way better then Duchene. And no, I'm not being biased because I'm a Hawks fan.

If we didn't also have Soderstrom and Beauvillier, I'd hate this. But this is fine if you ask me. It's overpayment, but it'd be worth it to us.

Would the Islanders be interested in a 3 way trade with Pittsburgh where New York gets Phil Kessel and the Pens get Duchene? The Penguins also give up Connor Sheary to Colorado and want a 3C or defenseman in return. I would see you fill in the remaining parts if you like the idea.
